This was the best conference top to bottom in CPS this year. 2 teams in the quarters with a very good chance of advancing to the semis is absolutely outstanding. IMO Solorio could have been a 3rd but unfortunately Phillips stood in their way. Conference games between Phillips, Raby, and Solorio were all hard fought and definitely had that "personal rivalry" vibe to them with all the Twitterverse chatter.
(4A) Raby vs Dixon: This is a very winnable game for Raby. In fact I will be surprised if they dont win by at least 2 TD's. Raby is a solid team who can air it out if you load up to stop the run and have a really fast, athletic, & tough defense. The Raiders just went into Richmond Burton and took everything they had before pulling away at the end while holding the Rockets to a little over 50 yards of offense in the second half. Dixon has given up a ton of points this year and I dont think they want to get into a shootout with the Raiders. The Dukes better bring some speed to use on that 1980's Hanson astroturf because Mr. Turnipseed and the Raiders can fly.
(5A) Phillips vs Lemont: This is an old heavyweight fight between 2 power punching defenses with a heavy dose of downhill running. If you like old school HS football, then this is the game for you. Phillips D just held all state/Virginia Tech commit QB Quincy Patterson to a little over 70 yards passing with 1 TD/1 int and 14 carries for 1 yard. Lemont has only given up 79 points thru 11 games thus far so we know how stingy their defense is. Can the Indians contain Craig Elmore and company or do the Wildcats make it to their 4th semifinal in a row? My early prediction is Phillips in a low scoring hard fought game by 7.
Good Luck to all of these young men from CPS. I would love to see both make it to Dekalb.
