Ok. So I’ll assume you in your analyses also don’t think 18 gets it done unless absolutely everything falls our way. So if we lost today and went to 16-11, with Mich, @PSU, Minn (a worth-nothing must-win), and NW, plus an inevitably tough first round conf tourney matchup, I stand by what I said had we lost.
I don’t think 18-14 does it but it’s not completely impossible.

We will be favored against Mich, Minn, and NW and a slight dog at Penn St. we are definitely way way more than 15-20% to go 3-1 there, and then even if that doesn’t happen you have a shot to win on in the BTT which is probably a toss up or better.

All in all your estimate was bad

I’ll translate my first post in this thread in a more long winded way, if that helps.
“Eh.” - I’m glad they won which will help us make a tournament for a third straight season and continue program momentum. But that was not inspiring.
“It is what it is.” - Games at the end can be close and come down to chance. We darn near lost that one. Which would have all but sunk our postseason chances. We roll with the results as they come.
“C-level effort/showing…” Paul (looked ok coming back from the pain he experienced, kudos to him for his guts this season), Spencer, Cliff, Hyatt, Simpson, Reiber, Oskar, and the rest who played today left a lot on the court in terms of offensive execution and approach. I’m not big on critiquing players who are trying at all, but as a coach there is a time to yell “Somebody make an f’ing basket.” and that was needed for much of the second half. I also blame the coaching staff for the overall approach and player usage.
“Wisconsin is pretty awful.” - Self explanatory opinion. They likely finish 16-15 and miss the NIT by a wide margin. And I think Wisconsin played even below their own standards today, hence my frustration with the near loss.
Nebraska was infinitely more impressive against us than Wisconsin.
If all that didn’t come across, well welcome to the Internet.
A team that has a shot at the dance still isn’t pretty awful. Awful offensively like we can be yes.

….are you basing this on intuition, or predictive rankings that factor in our results with Mag?

Are you one of those people that thinks that means the line was wrong?
First of all, as you well know, a line moves based on randos placing bets. If you’re putting your faith in the wisdom of the initially set line, yes I thought that particular line was absurd, and it proved to be. We struggle against frenetic movement offenses with quick twitch chuckers like Tominaga and we were always going to struggle with that Nebraska team playing like they are currently.

No, not really. You need to either be betting huge or be flagged as sharp to move a line at one of the true market making books, and the soft books just follow the market makers.

Weird how it moved more in our favor then lol

How far off do you think the line was? I’ve got news for you, if you can identify lines that are off by more than a couple points without even doing any modeling, you are a savant. I assume you have become rich sports betting?

I think the ones that used that line and gave the points probably thought it was wrong
just before the game ended 😁
The ones that bet Nebraska must have been glad the Cornhuskers weren't the 2 TD favorites that game 😎

I lost $10 on the Giants against the Eagles, so I guess I’m not a savant.

All I will say is there are select scenarios where close followers of teams and situations can feel confident that their pre-game assessment that a line is way off will play out, and it does.

Of course Nebraska could’ve clanked enough shots that we won by 10. I’m not impugning the accuracy of models over long spans of time.

it's a mirage only meant to upset the doom & gloom people that claim the season ended the moment Mag was injured.
Do you believe doom and gloom fans by nature have no standing and should have no presence on the board.
I’m curious if you read the boards as reference of the teams we play against?

I think the board would be a better place without the people who come out to post proclamations of doom after every loss, yes

I don’t make proclamations of doom, but I’m definitely an opinionated, critical fan.
Always have been always will be.
I celebrate wins and don’t disappear even if I post WTF was that, or sarcastically say nice shot selection fellas a half dozen times in the game thread!
I think by and large yourself and most others are intelligent and know sports well enough to know who the more critical, more negative fans who are still diehards are

I’m definitely, definitely not talking about you. The people who are here every game win or lose and might be a little more critical are fine. Hell, I disagree with bac about all kinds of stuff but I would never say he wasn’t an asset to the board.

The people I’m talking about are the ones that either
(1) only show up after losses basically to troll people or
(2) just go absolutely insane, posting that we will never win another game, or will obviously miss the tournament, or whatever when that’s just objectively not close to a reasonable opinion or
(3) in addition to being negative, actively attack people for NOT being negative

(1) and (3) may be real “fans” but they essentially act as trolls here. (2) are just not emotionally mature enough for internet access

doom and gloomers have the same rights as the sunshine and lollypops crowd.
Both get caught up in the moment and should be able to smile at themselves when
they are proven wrong.
But neither bunch should insult who they feel is a doom and gloom or sunshine & lollypop person on an individual bases, calling out either group ( like I did gloom and gloomer bunch) should be fair game and considered part of how this board interacts , not something to make a big issue over.( unless personal insults are involved)

As for reading the boards , no matter what the team both sides go by the action happening at the time and praise or complain according to how RU is playing at that moment and I feel most of the time it's RU being talked about with the opponent being good or bad a minor factor..
Heat of the moment best describes why the reactions are and not calmly rationalizing what's going when they post about the game as it's being played.

If you have thin skin you won't like being considered a doom and gloomer or accused of being all sunshine and lollypops.
If you just brush off those classifications , then all can say what we feel before, during and after game and feel OK saying so
Because in reality fans are usually both at one time or another , but for those who feel offended:
"A guilty conscience needs no accuser "

By the way:
I consider myself a sunshine & lollypop RU Fan

Yes and I believe we chased Geo away, he hasn’t been on here for a while and I don’t see his username anymore.
And, wouldn't that be a shame if we did chase him away with our blithering, mostly uninformed prattle? That, in itself, should be enough of a reason to try to be less condescending and pointlessly critical in our opinions of game performances of our coaches and players. Think about some of the posts made just about Cliff this past week and then watch him in the last few seconds of today's game...do those opinions and that player we saw today really match up very well? Gotta love this team...no quit. Gotta love this coach...no quit. Now...let's CRUSH Michigan!!!!! GO RU!

Part of our fanbase is legit delusional.
Indeed. Mag misses three games that we lose and the loss is 100% because mag didn’t play. Caleb misses the game and we win and it’s if we had Caleb we’d still win.

Not everything can be rationalized.

Speculation -- I heard a very credible rumor that half RU players had covid during the year (around the MSU and iowa games)--is it true ,who knows , and does it account for some games this year where we loooked exhausted?? I would'nt be surprised if Caleb has been hurt for awhile ?
I can believe this. I know plenty of high school kids over the last couple of years that wouldn't get tested for Covid in season even though they had Covid symptoms.

while the game wasn't pretty, though, it was pretty fun...I don't see how anyone of our fans can be knocking the win.
We are on the road against a bubble team that was only 1 game under .500 in conf play. We are down 2 big time starters and we won.
These are the games we lose most years. This one was a gut check.

I'm late to the thread because I spent the day "touching grass" with my youngest and watched the game off the DVR when we got back.

Criticism of the EFFORT today is CRAZY. Criticism of the 2nd half offensive execution today is fair but a little harsh considering we were down two starters, one of which was a scratch before the tip. Criticism of the D in the 2nd half is nuts.

Wisconsin is a good style fit for us compared to others in the conference. Still, it's not easy to win at their place. Great job to pull it off. Cliff was a monster in the last 30 seconds.

No, we won a game, a road game in the Big Ten. It was a day to be happy. You chose to **** on it instead. You told fans of the team that won they should not be happy (yes you did). No one was throwing a party, just being happy to have won. And you told us we were wrong to be happy, hiding behind your expectations. It was a ****** thing to do.

Feel free to get the last word in if you like. I’m done with you.
As the game started, I told my wife that it would be a minor miracle for us to win today with Mawot and now Caleb out.

What a team win. The coaches did a great job today. I would have LOVED to have been in those huddles. Each player gutted it out. Each player found a way. That last defensive play by Cliff is the perfect example.

This is what college sports and competition is all about. That is what the negative nancy dudes are missing.

Down Caleb last minute and in the road … is a great win.

Didn’t watch the game but checked the score and was happy and then later was surprised to see Caleb was out.

Another road win. Hopefully can get 2 more wins and stay in top 6 of the league. 11-9 would be a good year (of course hoping for 12-8).

You never know on this league.

But congrats to the team … predicted 3-3 finish … still think that’s most likely after this win.

Kudos to the team!
