Crazy thought regarding OC search (but could be true in this day and age)

So the OC hire isn't going fast. While this isn't the way it should work because the idea is to be more long term focused than on one season. However, Beamer knows he only has next year. So any incoming OC knows that he needs to also produce in year one or he is also out of a job after one season.

So having said that, I wonder if an OC candidate could potentially be waiting to see what LaNorris Seller's decision is. Or I wonder if they are ALL (Beamer, OC, and LaNorris) are all trying to figure out if it is all going to work out for all three to be back.

Look, I know that sounds ridiculous. Even just two years ago, an OC wouldn't make a decision because of one player. But this is a pretty specific situation where any OC that comes in knows he has one year to produce or he is out the door along with Beamer.

Just FYI, I have actually heard there is a good chance that Sellers would come back with a good NIL package.

who knows? maybe sellers is waiting on seeing who the new OC is gonna be? so everyone is just waiting. i don't know if we can wait for sellers to make up his mind to hire one since he likely wants to wait on a draft grade and all that. not sure when that happens.

Waiting to see if Sellers' "people" direct him to the portal?
What potential OC wants to contend with the distinct possibility of benching Sellers?

Is he worth it? Last year he was the 5th or so highest paid player.

This is a good question. My answer is what are the alternatives?

1. Cutter Woods - Supposedly has very good potential but has zero meaningful playing time. Also, just to me, while he seems like a potential "good" Quarterback (and I mean that as a compliment) is he really the type of QB that can lead SC to 7 or 8 wins next year which is what it will take for Beamer to have any chance of keeping his job. I hate to say this but at a place like SC, NC State, Kentucky, etc. you can't just have a "good" QB to do anything worth noting. You have to have a top QB. A Spencer Rattler type QB. Is Cutter Woods that type of QB in his first year with true experience? I just don't see it.
2. Air Noland - No way. Pass. Already seen enough of him to know he will not be a significant player at SC. He threw a pass into the end zone in the Coastal Game that I really hope slipped out of his hand, but sadly I don't think it did.
3. The transfer portal. This could maybe be an option. But again, Beamer has to win next year.

So to Beamer who only gets one shot at staying at SC, he may absolutely be the best option and worth it.

To be fair does anyone actually know how much any player makes in NIL? Has there ever been a single publicly confirmed NIL deal? Not talking sponsorship for a product. But an NIL agreement between a player and a school?

Disagree on Woods, given a coordinator that would work to his attributes like Spurrier did at Florida. He gets the ball out quickly and accurately to a spot; a move the chains qb. Something Sellers, although freakishly athletic when so inclined, seems oblivious to. I gurantee Woods would not run out of bounds well in front of the marker on fourth down when we're trying to win a game at the end.

No. The listing i saw was like all others, based on speculation. I did see the 3.7 million number repeated a lot. So either the number was accurate, or they were all quoting the same source.

I will agree in theory on Woods IF we have an OC that runs an offense that gets the ball out quickly (think Missouri or old ECU offenses under Ruffin McNeill.) That isn't a knock on Woods. He may be as accurate as Tom Brady if he gets time in the pocket. The problem is that we are unlikely to see that with our offensive line. I just don't see a completely stout offensive line next year when year after year, we haven't seen that so far under Beamer.

I'll say it again. If Beamer, or any OC candidate for that matter, is basing any decision on what Sellers or any other player says or does, they are idiots and don't need to be college coaches.

I too question whether Sellers is worth it. And even if he comes back, next season would probably be his last. Would he be a shell of himself trying to save himself for the draft?

This.

Although it's a cute saying, the tail doesn't wag the dog.
