I was in New Castle last Friday and first off I gotta do it. GOOOO BLUES!!!

However, I will be man enough to admit that this Craig County team is not the same team of the past. They had me worried in the first half. Their secondary gave up a bomb before half on a trick play that I thought would suck the wind out of them. If it had not been for bad snaps near the goal line they probably would have scored 2-3 more times. The game was much closer than the scoreboard told us at the end. If Craig can figure out their center woes they may give teams some trouble. I think they lose out, but I think the days of everyone blowing them out regularly are gone.

I read that they switched to the single wing recently. It seems like the team has bought into it and I think the head coach and one assistant coach grew up around the Giles single wing. I like seeing these little small schools turn things around. From the look of their roster, they return a bunch next season too.

Covington, if they were still around and Class 1, and had not combined with Alleghany would likely be a force in Class 1 this year. Much of Alleghanys talent this year is coming from a great couple of classes Covington had coming up. Covington would have been a threat in Class 1 this year if still around.
