Chatham, MacArthur, and Jacksonville all had chances to win last week but came up short, leaving SHG and Rochester as the last two CS8 teams playing.

The Saturday forecast is partly sunny with a high of around 50.

Saturday
Metamora (8-3) at SHG (9-1) 1:30 PM
These teams last faced each other in the 2006 5A semifinals. The Redbirds faced 7 playoff teams in the regular season, with their best wins coming against non-conference opponents Sterling and Cahokia. They lost to 6A Dunlap, 6A Pekin, and 5A Morton. The loss to the Potters was their only decisive defeat, as Morton won 35-7 Week 9. In the playoffs, they've beaten Alton Marquette 56-7 and '25 semifinalist Breese Central 21-20. Against the Cougars, Metamora scored late in the 4th Quarter and then made the 2-point conversion for the road victory. The Redbirds are led by QB Jeeter Schweigert, who has thrown for almost 1,700 yards and run for more than 450. He has accounted for 22 TDs on the season. Two Running Backs have combined for more than 1,000 yards. Briggs Bucy is the Redbirds leading Receiver with 13 TDs and over 900 yards. SHG led Jerseyville 35-0 at half and got the running clock at 42-0 early in the 3rd Quarter before winning 42-13. During the regular season, QB Cam Brinkman had 21 total TDs and was the team's leading rusher with 635 yards. RB Mikey Groesch added 15 total TDs during the regular season. The Cyclone defense is giving up fewer than 13 points a game, and no opponent has scored more than 28. SHG 35 Metamora 13 (Massey: SHG 28-20).

Cahokia (8-3) at Rochester (9-1) 4:00 PM
These teams last faced each other in the 1st round of the 2021 playoffs. Every team Cahokia faced in the regular season made the playoffs. They lost to SHG's Week 12 opponent Metamora, a Missouri school, and 4A top ranked Morris. Only the Morris loss was decisive, although Cahokia did lead at halftime 19-16. Their best regular season wins were against 4A Mt Zion, 5A Carbondale, and 4A Highland, all of whom are still playing. In the playoffs, the Comanches have beaten East Peoria 47-0 and Jacksonville 24-21. Cahokia led Jacksonville 24-14 in the 3rd Quarter and then were able to run out the clock after forcing a punt late in the 4th while leading by 3. The Comanches are led by QB Nigel Gooden, who has thrown for nearly 2,400 yards and 28 TDs. Their main RB, Kameron Dowell, has nearly 1,150 yards rushing and 9 TDs. WR Hartles Holman has almost 700 yards receiving and 8 TDs. Rochester defeated Waterloo 49-7 last week, after leading 42-0 at half. QB JP Leonard has 2,100 yards passing and 30 TDs. Evram Tabag has rushed for nearly 1,100 yards and 15 scores, while Nate Swaney leads a deep receiving corps with 718 yards and 9 TDs. Rochester 43 Cahokia 20. (Massey: Rochester 34-24).

At the beginning of the season I had my money on Rochester winning it all but there's something not quite right with the Rockets... With not having to face Montini or Morris before the finals is a gift but SHG still lerks... The Morris/Montini winner will be the state champions unless the wheels fall off the bus... My money's on Morris but I'm playing with house money!~

I think SHG would give either Morris or Montini a game with talent and size alone. Rochester has what SHG does not, incredible speed AND one of the best, if not THE best, coach in the state with a track record for winning big games, even when he's not supposed to. They may lose to those 2, but it will be in tight affairs. SHG/Rochester as the last two standing is the standard in the CS8... the least we can do is hope one of em wins it all 🤷‍♂️ Or is that too much NUIC tough guy fanfare for this group? 😁

I think the 4a championship could be the most entertaining game of the weekend. There are multiple compelling options.

Ugh.... Me back SHG... Ummmm.... Being a Titan may not let me do that!~ Should SHG defeat Rochester again... Ugh... I will try...

Backing Mighty Mt Carmel and QND is about my limit for Private school love!~;)

I always want Rochester to win it all... When Jacobs had the job I was a Rockets fan...

But... Being the Gemini that I am I have the brain and Heart to deal with... heart... CS8 while the Brain says Morris...

All.... The last time SHG played the Redbirds was a semi postseason game in 2006 at Memorial Stadium in town . An outstanding program rich in tradition. Back then Metamora was for the most part strictly a running team. No so as of late especially after getting senior transfer (From Washington.... they sure missed him this season) QB Schweigert who rocketnation mentioned in his write up has thrown for 1700 yard and rushed for amost 500 yards. This should good game.

Below is the 2006 video I came across. A blast from the past so to speak. Redbirds came into that game averaging 48 and giving up 12 in the dozen games they had played. Number 37 for the Cyclones who saw a lot of action and the player at the beginning of the game with the SHG flag is Dr. Keenan Gilpin. I actually have a t shirt (a couple) showing him on top of those SHG players waving the American flag which you will see in this video clip. Others in the know will also notice a certain SHG coach at the time firing up the "troops." 👍 Ratsy

All.... Adam Duvall with the Peoria Journal Star does the area predictions for H.S. Football. He has for the SHG/Metamora game 49-35 Cyclones. Ratsy

I presume you knew the answer... but AI fact check to the rescue... 🤣

Didn't they end up forfeiting that entire season due to "administrative errors?"
Didn't though, oddly, Tim Thornton tuck tail and run because of that? Maybe he was admin?
I knew it was the PJS staff...wasn't 100% sure if it was him in particular. It was 40-0 early in the 3rd Quarter. Rochester would've had the running clock late in the 1st half except a Pick 6 was nullified by a penalty.

I love that even AI was laughing at this one with the "...completely incorrect. Rochester dominated Peoria" :ROFLMAO:
I remember some folks in Charleston making bold, bold predictions too one year when facing the Rockets in the postseason... I'm still not sure their varsity team got off the bus that day. The JV did all the scoring in the 4th quarter.
