And then there were two.

After Week 10 losses by U High, Springfield, MacArthur, and QND and Week 11 losses by Chatham and Jacksonville, two CS8 teams remain and they will face off Saturday in a rematch of their Week 9 contest. The winner will face the winner of the Cahokia-Breese Central game which is at 2 pm Saturday.

Saturday's high projected to be 73, great for November and a big change from earlier in the week.

SHG (8-3) at Rochester (10-1) 4 PM
Against Carterville last week, SHG scored twice late in the 1st half to increase their lead from 14-7 to 24-7 on their way to a 45-15 victory. Rochester started quickly at Waterloo, leading 14-0 in the first quarter. The Bulldogs responded with two TD drives, the second which tied the score at 14 with 3 minutes left in the 1st half. The Rockets were able to score twice in the final 3 minutes to lead 28-14 at half, then pulled way in the 2nd half to win 55-21.

The Week 9 game between the Cyclones and Rockets was a back-and-forth contest with big plays by both teams on offense along with key defensive stands by each as well. Tied at 14 at half, Rochester opened up a 28-14 lead late in the 3rd. The Cyclones responded with two 4th-quarter scores to tie it at 28 with around a minute remaining. The Rockets were able to kick a last second FG to win 31-28. Rochester is averaging 49 points per game; SHG 47. Rochester is allowing 18 points per game; SHG 26.

This will be the fourth time the two teams have faced each other again in the playoffs, with the previous rematches occurring in 2019, 2021, and 2022. All three were exciting contests that were not decided until late in the 4th quarter. Expect nothing less on Saturday. Rochester 35 SHG 31. Massey: Rochester 42-32.

All.... This will quite likely be the last time SHG will be in 4A. Enrollment this year was up after the previous year with a very small gain. I'm being told another one with a decent rise is coming again. Ratsy
Don't know if this will be a trend or if enough of a sample size exists yet but noticed as the CS8 enrollment numbers became "official" on the IHSA site at the beginning of the season that QND and SHG increased, while almost all the publics went down (some significantly). Even Chatham, which has continually grown for the last 15-20 years, seems to have leveled off.

I've mentioned previously that Rochester is shedding enrollment compared to when my kids graduated Precovid and Covid respectively. If current trends continue, I would not rule out the Rockets dropping to 3A in the next 3-4 years.

Springfield went from 6A in the playoffs last year to 5A this year and Jacksonville went from 5A to 4A,

@cornerrat#1 do you think with shg having their own junior cyclone team is contributing to the rise? net-se.
All.... This was the first year under Coach Ken Boyle. Starting numbers were a total of 39. (31- 7th and 8-8th grade) The JR. Cycs only played at the eighth grade level. Losing one game against Rochester. Not bad for year one.

I will be very curious how many of the eight go to SHG. The following year looking at that next large group could have a significant impact if most attend the school. Throw in sisters of those players as well would move enrollment up even more. Ratsy

All.... Congrats to The Rocket in OT! Both of these teams would of (and one will) have issues on what is coming from the north bracket in the final . But one had to win. Refs by the way from the Metro East were awful for both sides. Ratsy P.S. As usual the rodent got yelled at. Getting out very early and setting up the tailgate a little after noon along with some Rocket tailgaters I helped set up their tent. So two hours later the wine Moms (likely never worked a day in their life) but married well and their cheerleaders that had just arrived demanded me to move yapping the spot I was in was theirs. Didn't happen. Lol

All.... Forgot to mention thanks for stopping by rocketnation! Best of luck against the Broncos..... I was chomping at the bit to see the Cycs play them but again. But alas it wasn't meant to be. Ratsy
Enjoyed the chance to talk! Thought it would be hard to top the Week 9 game for excitement, but this time OT was added into the mix.

We knew what you meant, but the Rockets can't look past Breese. They are stout, fast and crafty. And they are hitting their stride lately. They won't be an easy out!

Think about your comments as you bragged about coming to a facility which was not your home field and bullying some cheerleaders and some moms who support the cheer squad in their efforts engage with the community. You were literally bragging about having zero life and showing up at 8:00 AM for a 4:00 PM game. The level of mediocrity in which you exist would bore a sloth.

All.... I see comprehension issues continue. Once again you need to lay off that smoke. Get back on your meds that will help with your mental health issues. Lets examine your latest inaccurate and false narrative shall we?

Having arrived a bit after 12 (not 8am) I helped one from the Rochester crew already in the lot (do they have a life lol) put up a tent in windy conditions. So later my tailgate is underway and I'm waiting in line to get a ticket when one from my camp alerts me that someone is unhappy where I'm parked. And as I have mentioned it's wine Mom "Karen." I get back to my spot and she already has a tent set up next to me but one parking spot is not enough for this Karen.

She says that spot is reserved. I will say I had to supress a smile when one of the young ladies on the cheer squad watching Karen rolled her eyes and looked at her friend next to her shaking her head. She knows a Karen when she sees one by the way.

So it was a very short conversation. The spots aren't reserved of course and that is what I told her. First come first served as they say. The fix was pretty easy but I let Karen figure it out on her own. A second spot was just a mere ten feet away. Behavior at "Hillbilly Haven" (the Rocket facility) by the locals before the game never cease to amaze me. Ratsy

Isn't there a designated area for visiting teams to tailgate at Rochester? I seem to remember the opposing team tailgating near the tennis courts.

All.... For those that tailgate and grill a tree lined area not parking lot striped that holds around 35 or so vehicles is on the visitors side. Across the lined spaced parking lot are the tennis courts you speak of. In the past I have seen some Rochester tents up but not for tailgating. The district has put up in the past (2024) that tailgating is only available on the East side of the lot by those trees.

I arrive early to get a spot. I could easily get much closer to the stadium entrance but make a point of parking farther away in deference to those Rocket folk that set up and cook for many of their faithful. But for some it's never enough. In the past they had tailgating out in a field but problems arose and that went away. I think my flag flying high stirs up the hillbilies. Ratsy

Read your comments before posting them. In one, you claim the wives here have married well. And in another you claim this is Hillbilly Haven. You're literally bragging about taking off half of a shift from your Sparc sponsored role cleaning the dining area at Taco Bell in order to arrive hours early to harass young women and wives at a high school football game. You helped snap the legs in place on a portable table? Good for you! I've heard the mentally retarded have astounding strength especially the ones with thick glasses like yourself. Rest easy old man. Basketball season is two weeks earlier for you. And after that you can reach out to Jeffrey Fieger who can give you some contact info for one of Dr. Kevorkian's protege's so you complete your miserable existence and save one of our sheriff's deputies from taping off an accident scene when you plow into the traffic light pole at Washington and Chatham Rd. Damn, you're a miserable human.

Have they allowed you to use a fork again? Or are you still barred from utilizing sharp objects when eating?
