Eisenhower's best chance for a W, U High looking to go 4-4 with Lanphier on deck in Week 9, Jacksonville's playoff hopes hanging by a thread on the road against MacArthur, Rochester prepares for Air Springfield, SHG and Chatham see if they can top last year's OT thriller, and QND has to wait for Saturday and possible rain to go 6-2.

Friday's high projected to be 84 and it should still be very nice during the games. Saturday's QND vs Lincoln contest will see an estimated high of only 71 with a good chance of rain.

Friday
Lanphier (1-6) at Eisenhower (0-7)
After beating Lincoln in Week 1, the Lions have lost six straight. Their Week 7 loss to Southeast was a heart breaker as they fell behind the Spartans 19-0 before rallying only to come up just short and lost 19-18. Eisenhower has not been shut by anybody this season but is also surrendering 49 points per game. While Lanphier has one win and almost won last week, they've only scored 54 points on the season. I'm taking Eisenhower at home in a close one. Eisenhower 26 Lanphier 20. Massey: Eisenhower 35-21.

U High (3-4) at Southeast (2-5)
Both teams have beat Lincoln, but U High won 47-0 in Week 4 while the Spartans margin was only 14-6 in Week 2. U High needs to win here and next week against Lanphier to go 5-4 and make the playoffs. U High 41 Southeast 14. Massey: U High 47-7.

Jacksonville (3-4) at MacArthur (5-2)
Two run heavy teams face each other, which could result in one of the quicker games of the weekend. Neither team likely to pass more than 5 times. Against Rochester last week, MacArthur was also very deliberate when they had the ball, with their QB often coming to the sidelines between plays and not snapping the ball until the play clock was near 5. The Crimsons desperately need this game to stay in the playoff hunt after hard fought but tough losses to Springfield and QND. A MacArthur win would get them to 6-2 with QND on tap Week 9. With 6 wins, you have an outside shot at a home playoff game and at a minimum probably won't have to face a 9-0 team on the road. Mac had some success at times running the ball against Rochester and have the home field advantage. MacArthur 28 Jacksonville 20. Massey: MacArthur 34-27.

Springfield (5-2) at Rochester (6-1)
The '24 game saw 72 points scored and that total is likely to be higher this year as both offenses are scoring at high levels, Rochester is averaging 48 points per game; Springfield 43. Rochester has faced excellent QB's this year several times already in the Gibson Southern, Mt Zion, and Chatham games and now get another gun slinger in Brody Scheffler. After Week 6, Scheffler had already passed for 1,500 yards and 20 TD's. The Solons defense has struggled at times, giving up more than 40 points three times so far this season. Rochester's defense will be tested by a big play offense. After a great showing against U High in Week 5, the defense has been up and down against both Eisenhower and MacArthur. By Week 8, consistency becomes critical to success. The Rockets also need to avoid a slow start on offense, as they had back-to-back turnovers to begin the MacArthur game. Expect both defenses to be on their heels most of the night. Rochester 54 Springfield 28. Massey: Rochester 52-20.

SHG (6-1) at Chatham (7-0)
Chatham's 34-31 OT win last season was arguably the CS8 game of the year. Both teams have outstanding QB's, a top RB, and a group of excellent Receivers. Chatham's Colten Knoedler had passed for nearly 1,400 yards through Week 6 and accounted for a total of 25 TD's, while SHG's Cam Brinkman had passed for over 1,100 yards and had a total of 22 TD's. Both teams also have dangerous featured RB's in the Titans Grady Mueller and the Cyclones Mikey Groesch. Each team is averaging 49 points per game. After two difficult games against Edwardsville and Rochester in the first 4 weeks, Chatham has three straight shutout victories. After losing to the top-rated team in Missouri Week 1, SHG has won the next six games handily with the closest margin being 16 points. Expect a huge crowd on both sides. Both offenses have great balance, which makes it very hard for the defenses to key on everything. I thought at the beginning of the season that Chatham would most likely go 9-0 if they could win on the road Week 1 at Edwardsville. Colten Knoedler's experience and the home field advantage should be just enough for the Titans in a thriller. Chatham 45 SHG 37. Massey: Chatham 42-28.

Saturday
QND (5-2) at Lincoln (1-6) 1 PM
QND should have no problem going to 6-2 in a Saturday contest. Lincoln has been shut out three times already and got their one victory against winless Decatur Eisenhower. A good opportunity to get the starters some rest and the reserves some playing time for the Raiders. QND 44 Lincoln 0. Massey: QND 46-6.

All.... SHG @ Chatham.... Every other year I'm surrounded by a huge throng of Titan tailgaters when the game is in Chatham. There is always this one hard core group of Redskin fans (yes they call themselves that and have the shirts on to prove it) who have been at it likely as long as I have in parking lots around the state. We always talk and exchange pleasantries. They and the rest out there are pretty cool. One subject is always brought up and I await for it like always. "One of these days rat Chatham is going to clock SHG." Brought up is the 2013 and 2014 seasons when the Cycs did it to them and they have not forgotten. Is this the year they get their wish....

My thoughts on this game. SHG will have to sustain some long time draining drives. Avoid those three and out drives as much as possible. Or the points on the other side could come quickly. Turnovers have to be limited and no short field drives by the Titans. Holding down possessions is a must or this game could get ugly quickly.

I'd take rocketnation's score in a second but anything less then a three score win by Chatham and I will gladly move on. They are too deep and will wear the Cycs down. We will see.

Springfield @ Rochester The unusual thing about Brody is he throws better on the run rolling out then just your usual drop back and toss. That gives him extra time when they are running five wide (often) and his receivers run very good routes. The Senators aren't going to win this game and it shouldn't be close. But those db's are going to be tested and the Rocket d better stay in their lanes when he decides to run. (something SHG forgot to do)

Best game of the week.... Jacksonville @ MacArthur This is the BIG one for the Crimsons. It's their week eight "playoff game." I'm going to pick the Crimsons in an upset although playing at MacArthur and winning isn't easy. Ratsy

I'm rooting for Ike... The kids are hanging with the program which will pay strong dividends for the Panther program!!!

UHigh should not have a hint of trouble...
I'm curious to see how the Crimsons come out and play...
I don't see SHS scoring 28 on Rochester...
With our best teams we never scored a ton of points on SHG... Coaching great Kenny L may have had something to do with that...
The Radha's should shutout Lincoln... Anything else is failure!!!

If I had to put $$$ on the DMac/Jacksonville game I would say DMac 28-20... But my heart says Jacksonville 21-20!

The Generals have absolutely nothing in the passing game. Then again, neither do the Crimsons. If #5 from Mac gets free of the blob which will be the line of scrimmage, he's too fast in the open. Otherwise, it is just too easy to defensiveley scheme for this game.

This is the stupid part of RPO... 4th and 1 at the 1 yard line, Chathams line is dominating yet they have a shotgun formation and SHG stops the Titans.

End of the 1st 0-0

SHG 42 yr FG as time ends... SHG 10-7 at the half

The way the play calling is going for the Titans, if something doesn't change, I can see a SHG victory!

Titans are crush by the pressure.... Can't get anything going... 3 and out and the Cyclones are getting the ball back. SHG smells blood and they are now dominating this game.

Chatham will be in trouble no matter what class they make the playoffs...

The Crimsons come up big in a must win situation, scoring late after trailing 33-28.

Springfield sat several important players for most or all of the game. Will wait for an explanation from Coach Hebb. I was wondering why the Solons offense was playing very conservatively in the 2nd Quarter, then looked at the roster sheet and saw QB Brody Scheffler was not taking snaps. Heard afterwards that Thurman and Newman also either didn't play or were only in a few series,

Congrats to the Panthers on their 1st win of the season, apparently scoring in the final minute to break a 21-21 tie.

All.... Congrats to the Titans! Fun game and the Titan fans in the parking lot were great. SHG had their chances and you have to make a fourth and half a yard to win running out the clock. That stud Titan defense said nope... not going to happen. If the Titans go 5A the only team to stop them is Cary Grove. Next week a high of 66 and no rain when the Rockets come calling. Ribeyes I'm told I have to bring. Ratsy

All.... Maybe if they know the Titans weakness. Massey does have the Celtics a seven point favorite by the way. Pass defense better be good though or it would be along evening. Ratsy
Well Provi beat Carmel and their QB is a 4 star recruit and the #5 QB in the nation for the class of 2027 so I think their pass D would hold up ok.

Chatham also a 7 point underdog to Prairie Ridge and 6 point dog to St. Francis.

All.... That's all fine and dandy. Except my comment was between those two teams if they would meet up. Couldn't care less on that other "noise". Ratsy

You were the one that said CG would be the only team Chatham would have to worry about if they fall to 5A.
