I think it all comes down to if you ain't cheating you ain't trying. You need to lower your standards a bit if you want to have a top program year in and year out. How do you think Urban Meyer has been so successful? He recruits some of the worst human beings around that just so happen to be awesome at football. I don't think MSU is on the same level and OSU or Urban Meyer, but you gotta be a bit lax when it comes to academic standards and criminal history if you want a winning program in college football.

So the recent MSU recruits are criminals or poor students? Which of them do you know?

Racist (I'm kidding!....Everybody relax...breathe).

I mean, he's right but he's wrong. Not every kid is a good kid and not every kid is a bad kid. MSU is just hitting up Illinois a lot more harder than before (that's what she said). They got a stud in Josh King and another Allen, both of whom are good kids, that's a fact.

Easy bud, breathe, its gonna be OK. Im not singling out any one kid. Im just pointing out the fact that if you want to be successful in major college sports, especially football, you do need to bend the rules at times. Whether that be in recruiting(Pete Carroll) or letting in "suspect" kids with poor morals(Urban Meyer)/academics(Chip Kelly) or letting kids get away with rape (Mike Riley)(Jimbo Fisher). At the end of the day what is college sports truly about now a days? The all mighty $$$$$ and these coaches are making $5m year to just win baby.

I love college football, LOVE it. But I don't need to lie to myself about what it has become; A mini NFL with less morals. These private and public educational institutions and the joke they call the NCAA, happily sweep scandals under the rug(Penn State) like its no big deal almost every day.

kingwilliam, u are correct of course.
But I do want to point out (and I think u wil agree) that just because a college enrolls criminals and the academically inferior doesn't mean it doesn't also enroll high school valedictorians and soup-kitchen volunteers.
This is what Power 5 athletics fans need to get used to defending.

Don't be surprised if one of the Illinois kids committed to MSU doesn't qualify even for the academic redshirt.

Edge,
So is their only option to gray shirt their first semester/year in hopes they qualify for the 2017 season ? Or do they not even qualify to get accepted into the school?

There will be a ton of this happening this year and next. Then schools and kids will adjust.
