My one time at Cameron was during the summer (June) of 2000. Two times, actually. My friend was getting married in Chapel Hole (Yes a New York transplant to Wilmington, NC) and I was in the wedding party. On the Friday before the wedding I ventured over to Cameron with my girlfriend at the time. The first door I tried was open and we walked right in. Just so happened that Nick Horvath was in there shooting FTs. He was in a collared polo shirt and I surmised he was probably between summer school classes but who knows. I walked right out on the court and said something like, "Come on, Nick, ya gotta let me take one." he was laughing and passed me the ball out on the wing for a 3. I choked up a bit and was short with that one. Hit the next two, missed the fourth then hit the 5th three and stopped. Yep, I am a career 60% shooter from three in my Duke career and still easily hold that recore to this day. Lol. It was very cool though. My girlfriend had one of those disposable cameras that were so dammn popular at the time and got some pics with me and Nick out there. One pretty good one when I was in mid shot too. Just FYI this was at the basket opposite the retired jerseys and banners. Pretty cool memory to have though.
The next day, Saturday we drove back over in the morning but the place was a zoo with kids registering for the Duke camp. But it turned out OK I would say. Got a pic with K, yes, no ****, Tommy Amaker and David Henderson. Not all together but just as I ran into one at a time. We hung around for a few minutes and left after that. Nobody even questioned who the hell we were or why we were there. Probably just assumed we somehow belonged after crashing the party like that and acted like we knew what we were doing. Ha.
