That's a silly hot take when I already said he had almost no protection. My point was that even when he did have time, he consistently threw over his receivers. Some of the other plays were clearly designed to take advantage of the attacking D and create over pursuit to open up a lot of space for his backs, and even then he made some bad reads.

It's safe to say that he will be facing games like that this coming year and that video doesn't bode well imho. NU's line will be better than SMU's line was in that game, but one or two of our opponents will be, you know, pretty good.
Hot take? It’s tape from ONE game. Personally, I would watch more than one game highlights before rendering an elvaluation.

IMHO, Stone will be just fine. If NU stinks, it will be for other worrisome areas.

So you’re saying stone is not good based on one clip? Versus his history?

It was your silly hot take on my comments about the video, hth.

Someone posted a video, which I watched. My comments are indeed based solely on the video, and in that video I don't think Stone looks good. I assume someone could post a video showing all of the awesome stuff he has done and then he'd look awesome. As far as football goes, all that really matters is how he performs during the season. I'll certainly root for him to succeed.

Kinda agree. Showed sone good pocket presence under pressure and made sone good throws, but was erratic. Better than what we had, and perhaps hes improved over the past couple of years. We'll see. Sink or swim

I think the benchmark for a successful transfer QB at NU is Peyton Ramsey. If Stone can come close to the production of Ramsey in 2020, then we will have a fun, winning season.

Mr User name not available, not sure how it’s a hot take if your comments/perceptions are right there for all to view and you admitted it was based on one game highlight tape. That’s sounds more like a hot take to me, but whatever. BTW, making an evaluation on one tape is what is silly!

They will go bowling if Stone remains healthy.
A very good QB like Stone is worth at least 3-4 more wins. In a shortened season in 2020, Ramsey took a 3-9 team to 7-2, and it could've easily have been a 9 or 10 win season. If Stone stays healthy, six wins is a given, and if the ball bounces in our favor, 8 wins is possible.

I think this is the concern I have too. I just felt like there were too many deer-in-the-headlights moments from Braun and staff last year where they seemed way over their heads. That, plus the inability to recruit well makes me very nervous about his ability to succeed. I admit, though, that I have some preconceived biases about all this. I am not confident in a coach coming from the FCS division who wasn't even a head coach there. He then brought in one coordinator from the FCS level and another is an elevated position coach. They seem so green and not in an exciting, fresh, and revolutionary way.

But, I'd like to imagine a scenario where they shock the world this season and make it to a bowl and prove me wrong. It wouldn't answer all the questions about ability to recruit, but it would certainly say they figured out gameday. I'm not saying that is what it would take to keep his job, but if the team does look overmatched and outcoached as badly as they did last year, then we MUST start over.
If he fails we need to find the hottest OC available in Division 1A. Ryan has given the football program way too much $$$$$ for these results. The program will never be really competitive til it at least lands a few 4 star recruits each year. 3 stars just means the kid can just make a B1G roster, nothing more. Ryan I am sure wants to see big dividends for his rather large investment. If Braun fails to make the 6 win mark again, the experiment needs to end quickly. The longer the mediocrity fosters, it might make it really tough to find a very good HC.

I hate to say it because Braun seems to be a really good man but I agree 100%.

I am an eternal optimist, and so I think the Cats will be in the 6 to 7 win range. I think this team has some similar characteristics to NU teams that have surprised people in the past. I think depth, outside of wide receiver, is good. As many have pointed out, the starting QB is a veteran. While the schedule is challenging, the 3 BIG teams they match up best against (Purdue, UCLA and Minnesota) are all at home. Even though they will be prohibitive underdogs against Oregon and PSU, I expect both those games will be more competitive than expected, as Oregon under Lanning has generally not come together until about the 4th week, and Franklin’s running up the score in 2023 will help Braun focus the Cats. Both Nebraska and USC have been erratic in recent years, and a win in either of those games would not surprise me. While beating either the Illini or Michigan is unlikely, I don’t expect either to be a blowout, which means ther is some hope there.

I think the defense will be decent; the offense will rely on efficiency rather than explosiveness, but I suspect Stone may be able to make that happen.

I will be amazed if Braun is fired if he wins 4 or more games. This is his second year essentially as the first one he was interim making it hard to recruit. But I think it’ll be moot as we will surprise. Agree with eastbay

Braun may be fired even with a decent season if a hot coach that both the new AD & Pat Ryan like becomes available.
