You're defending paying $200 a month for ****ing tv. I don't care how much you pay. The fact that you're in a thread telling people that nobody cares that they pay $20 either means you are bizarrely ignorant, work for dish or you are locked into a contract at 45% more than you can afford and you want to take out your frustrations on somebody that isn't dumb enough to pay $2,400 a year to watch formulaic ********, filler, reality shows and commercials.

You rambling is more entertaining than anything on tv!

I really haven't looked into Kodi or XBMC yet. I hear they are awesome for getting everything. Truth is, I just torrent anything that Netflix/HDAntenna/Prime/Sling doesn't get me.

After cutting cable, and spending about $40/month (another $40 for the fastest pipeline, but that's optional).. the only thing I miss is blindly surfing. I was staying at my moms house for a few days, made a sandwich, and scoured through the 800 channels and premium content until I found a movie I wanted to watch. That's something you can't really do with without cable.

But honestly, is that a bad thing?

I'm the rare pro-commercial guy. Biased because many family members are in media and marketing, and commercials is how many make their money.

But I;ve honestly never minded commercials. I can check my phone, make food, take a piss. What you can't have an interruption? Like you need to watch Game of Thrones for 8 straight hours? Not to mention, it pays the bills. There's a reason why no-commercial packages are more money.

So I am dumb for paying that. Yet I am smart enough to easily afford it. It is not my fault that you are not smart enough to afford it?

At $20 a month you are not getting much. That is the point.

My Explorer only gets 20 miles per gallon, so I guess that is dumb also. Your 30 year old Toyoto probably gets 35 MPG and that makes you smart. My homes property tax is probably four times higher than yours and that also makes me dumb.

I wish I had never responded.

I enjoyed the exchange. I'm glad you posted it. It's sort of the opposite position from "The Millionaire Next Door". In that book the author argues that millionaires are that way because they don't piss their money away on worthless stuff. Your point seems to be that being a millionaire gives you the peace of mind to piss your money away on worthless stuff.

I had $140 DirecTV at one point and decided I could get by with $120...then $45 and get more TV than I could possibly justify watching. The marginal cost of adding even more TV that I won't watch is too high for me but I'm glad that you are free to spend your money on whatever the eff you want, tell everyone about it online, and make all of us feel a little better in our relative poverty. Cheers!

I don't like your tone backbeatcat.

I sure as hell am not rich. My wife and I enjoy TV. $200 a month for what you love is cheap so how do you get that as pissing away money on worthless stuff? It is worthless only if you don't use it.

Some of you folks sure are cheap and have attitude about it.

First of all, aren't you like really ******* old?

I just personally find paying $2400 a year for worthless slop kind of stupid. At $240, I am getting more than I need. I'd just rather spend that extra $2160 on something redeeming. Extra mini vacation. New investment. Hell, even giving it away would be more fulfilling that sitting on my *** and mind absorbing useless ****. Or do you pay that much and not use it much? I guess that's really cool.

I drive an escape.

Do you have a second home?

You seem to be bragging about living in excess and wasting money. Even If you have enough to do so, that still makes you a fool, in my book.

But enjoy your 8 hours a day of reruns of party down south and giada. That makes you so much cooler and more successful than me it's kind of obscene.

Hey, sorry, just being a little bit of a smartass...cuz that is what we do here. But mostly not. Personal freedom trumps everything IMO so do what you want and tell everyone to piss off.

The worthlessness in my humble opinion is the fact that between myself and my family we have 8 eyes and a limited amount of time to point them at a screen (744 hours/month if we don't sleep). 3 massive TVs, a projector and every streaming device imaginable...we still don't have the ability to watch more than that. Between Netflix, Amazon, HBO Now and the PlayStation package we pay < $70/month and get insanely more quality options for programming than we can watch. We aren't rich but we certainly aren't poor either. Every now and then there is something that we want to see that isn't on any of our services/channels. The extra $130/month to spend on something else is just worth more to me.

Meh. Some people throw away money on food, drinks, clothes or gambling. How cheap is your smart phone and its spending habit? Can everyone driving new Audi's, Mercedes, Bimmer's, Tesla's and Denali's afford these vehicles?

If you like the small screen, pass the popcorn and do what makes you happy. Even if it's from brainwashing. Even if you're alone in your underwear.

I pay $80 a month for Internet. Have Netflix. I watch the rest of the stuff on an App called Cast TV that streams pirated TV, movies and sports streams to my TV for free.

I like my setup and can't believe I paid $200 a month for 200 channels I didn't watch. Hell, not having to flip past MSNBC and Fox News makes me feel smarter.

If worst comes to worst with the Cast TV app, I just stream from my laptop to my TV via HDMI port.

Cutting cable and quitting cigs in the same year made a noticeable positive difference in my monthly budget.

I got rid of cable last November. I pay $54 a month for Internet and I share the WWE Network and Netflix accounts and stream sports via reddit sites.

I think cable is an utter waste especially if you have a smart TV and other non cable things like Hulu. I am pissed that it took me this long to get rid of it.

Like Mega Blue said, it's pretty cool to not hear every fad or controversy or political BS talked about 24/7 and have control over what you watch.

I've gone stretches without cable a number of times, but always end up turning it back on due to sports. Been a couple of years now and I'd love to shut it off for good, but any stream I've ever watched is **** tier quality comparatively (ie, bwo streams for UK games)

I just pay time warner for internet and pay for Hulu, Netflix, and HBO Now. Time warner just sent a letter offering tv with hbo and showtime for $29.99 a month for a year. I don't know what channels are included but I'm thinking about adding that and just using the hbo and time warner app so I don't have to pay for any boxes.

However people want to spend their money is up to them. I personally dont want to pay $200+ month for everything I can get for under $100 with more stuff. To each his own.

We got a high def antenna, so all local channels are free, which is about 40-50 channels.

We pay $35 for 50 mbps internet through TWC. We own our own router and modem.

We pay $8 for netflix, $20 for sling tv, and $15 for HBO.

The sling TV has live ESPN. I was paying $63/month for a lot, but decided to get HBO for Game of Thrones (though I usually just download it for free).

Our total is $78, which includes all taxes.

I can watch any of the apps on tablet, phone, computer, or TV.

There are also a lot of great free apps out there like PBS kids, YouTube, Crackle, and other various tv. Dont really care for netflix, but kids do.

None of mine is pirated. I just like paying less money for things I can get more of and cheaper.

Only thing I don't like about Sling is that you can only stream it on one device at a time. Usually not an issue, but every now and then it is hassle between me and my old lady.

Saw that ad from TWC about the $29.99 deal but gotta figure with your b.s. box rental and taxes/fees you end up inching towards $50/month. I'd have to see the details.

Just buy modem and router. You recoup cost in a few months.

Sling is offering some sort of mult-stream beta package. Up to 3 devices at the same time. $20/month...

For me it's worth $200 a month to not have to listen to my wife ***** about not watching a certain tv show, or try to explain using streaming apps, switching between Netflix, Hulu, etc. I did just downgrade our service, so I'm getting TV, Internet and wireless phone for $195/mo. I'm hoping channels that got deleted aren't on her show list.

We pay $35 for 50 mbps internet through TWC. We own our own router and modem.

How do you pull this off?

I call just called twc. Argued until the guy basically hangs up on me and they say $35 is only for new accounts and it's not permanent pricing. They want $60 for 50 mb. By the time I add any streaming services, like maybe playstation vue ($30) and netflix, that's $100 and there are no savings over what I have now (250 channels/hd/dvr/all sports/100 mb internet, etc $120).

I've gone the real "cord cut" route before for like a year or two in the past. Meaning nothing but internet bill and download everything else. It's just not the same for sports. Paying someone else the same amount for less/inferior just to say you're "cutting the cable". I don't get it.

Anyway, once Charter fully takes over (billing is the last department converted), I'll call back and switch to internet only for $40 a month 50/mb. My friend that use to work there said they actually allow anyone the advertised prices, unlike twc. That seems worth it. Closer to $50/month savings and tier 1 Vue covers pretty much every channel I usually watch.

Cut the cable if it works for you. I stop in just to keep up with the options were I to ever get cable. When your only options for Internet access are cellular or satellite, you can't even participate in the conversation. Hulu/Netflix/etc? Bet those would be nice to at least experiment with. When access is heavily metered, you have to do the math before watching very much streaming content of any kind.

I currently have DirecTV. Two old school receivers and two Genies. I maybe have an extra sports package, but nothing else of significance programming wise. My bill is $160 a month and I am a fool for paying it.

I have been playing around with Kodi running on a Raspberry Pi. It is great for Movies and MLB, however, it is terrible finding a stream for TV shows. I think I have about a 20% success rate and I don't have enough patience for that crap. The remote control for the Pi is a POS, but that is another issue altogether. I will probably keep it around for the movies, MLB and NFL

Thinking of going the Vue Route with an HD antenna for locals. Anyone have problems getting UK games with this setup? That is really my only concern.

Just a slightly different way I look at it: I have to have internet anyway so the $60 shouldn't really be considered in the cost of the cable cutting should it?
