Wyoming won more matches and scored more points against Penn state than Iowa did this year.
in fact Wyoming scored more points against Penn state then other team this season. Wyoming also finished ahead of Rutgers at ncaa last year and will again this year so i dont understand the point being made.
since 2021 South Dakota state has more all Americans and more ncaa finalists the Rutgers and finished ahead of Rutgers at ncaas 3 years in a row. SDSU finished 20 spots ahead of Rutgers in 2023 , 7 ahead in 2024 and 13 spots last year at a school in the middle of nowhere and maybe 1/4 of the resources

I love how easy it is for everyone to brush aside SDSU's loss to unranked Wyoming, who has far worse facilities and support, just because they want to defend their golden child. The reality is that virtually everyone, except PSU, has bad losses and gets upset at times.
I'd hire Dake or Burroughs as the successor, but neither is happening without significant $, like Taylor got, so it isn't in the cards.
Wyoming has been pretty good for a long time. Mark Branch has been there for probably 20 years. They have won a lot of matches in the Big 12. If I remember correctly he was a 4 time finalist but I don't think he ever won a NC. Damion is doing a really good job at SD. Both of these programs and coaches are well respected. I don't Damion leaves SD. I read an article about him a couple years ago and he pretty much said he loves the west and the lifestyle that comes with being in that region. I think his wife may be from that region and they met at Minnesota.

Branch was a 4x finalist but won as a freshman and a senior 1,2,2,1… Branch went into ncaa as freshman with a losing record and won it all, the only wrestler with a losing record to do so in history.
Branchs Wyoming teams have taken Oklahoma state down to the last match twice before as well , he is a top notch coach by every metric.

Also why mock Wyoming when they finished ahead of Rutgers last year. South Dakota has been better than Rutgers for 3 straight years thats just a fact so I really don’t get taking a shot at Hahn.
I mean West Virginia without 3 starters and a black hole at heavyweight just beat an healthier Oklahoma team who beat Rutgers. Should everyone take shots at Goodale for that?
Dake doesn’t play well with authority and a lot of his beliefs are the total opposite of the beliefs of most college admins idk if he ll ever be a head coach.
Zain Retherford is the guy no one mentions. Every kid knows him , Olympian, World Champ, 3x ncaa champ that dominated everyone his final 3 seasons. Arguably the most dominate mat wrestler in the past 10 years, he’ll improve Rutgers mat wrestling day 1. And he’s a solid down to earth guy who is well liked and would have no problem bringing in a staff with him.Plus he’s not as big a name as JB /Dake so it won’t cost an arm and leg to hire him and he’s been a paid coach at NLWC for years now coaching everyday.
I think it’s more the frequency.. it feels like every year there are many more WTF moments compared to WOOHOO moments as RU fans.. maybe I am wrong and this frequency happens to most programs?

Started coaching full time after the olympics ,officially for the NLWC but in the college room everyday too. I wonder if Cael view him as the guy who should take over when he’s done. I’d assume it’ll be Zain or Nick Lee

Idk if he’s money hungry (but what he used to charge for camps maybe) but he is definitely a jerk to anyone outside his circle. The wrestling world respects him but most don’t like him, he has that Kobe Bryant mindset which doesnt lead to making too many friends.

I don’t think many people are questioning whether or not Hahn is a better wrestler or coach than Goodale. The problem is that Hahn isn’t leaving SDSU to come here and I don’t know why people can’t accept that. Yes, Rutgers is in a better conference, has better resources, and should be a better program than SDSU but that’s not the only thing coaches look for in a job. Hahn seems very happy living the life he lives in that part of the country which is something we can’t replicate.
