No one wants to play Duke in a true Home and Away. Many prefer to play Duke off site at a larger arena for revenue purposes (no pesky free or cheap tickets to students: Eff those clowns).
.
But most don't want the danger it represents. Who wants to invite Duke into their house this year? Sure, you'll be on TV, and there will be high attendance for Duke (Zion).
.
But there is that pesky risk of being obliterated on national TV, home. Like, program ruining bad. So bad that potential recruits bail. And that is a risk pretty much every year. Even if it isn't that bad, there is a high risk of a loss vs Duke, even when Duke is truly on the road.
.
And that ignores the RETURN aspect. You know, where they have to venture into CIS. Because Duke has no interest in playing at an off campus facility. And while you might lose at home vs Duke, you might get destroyed in CIS while your players get mocked openly.
.
When talking heads whine about Duke not playing road games, they need to be specific. What they want is for Duke to play a very tough game on Thursday, and then travel to some super tough mid major on Saturday. With no return game.
.

They really want Duke to schedule sure fire losses, with no chance for Duke to extract revenge the following year. Hard pass.

This!
I don't know if anyone remembers, but in the late 80's and into the 90's Duke played home and away with many of the top programs. I can't remember all the teams over the years, but we played UCLA for several years (home & away) and Duke beat them like a drum...and if I remember correctly UCLA canceled that arrangement. Also Michigan, I think we did pretty well against them also. Don't know if they canceled (or we did), but we played them for some years.

So, to anybody that says Coach K is afraid of playing, or hasn't played the top teams on the road...they don't know ****. Duke played and beat the hell out of top teams time and time again years ago.
Times changed, and K changed with them.

Dakich beat MJ's UNC team in '84 and believes that makes the ACC a soft conference. Well that was 30+ years ago and IU has been an afterthought for 20+ years. In 2015 we beat Wiscy & MSU twice each!!!

We should have scheduled @ Wofford and @ Elon to bolster our resume.

The humor of the entire argument rests in the fact that their ringleader must now bump Duke up from unranked to near top of the rankings after a single game in which they were favored by 21 points. If you can’t laugh at that logic your head is screwed on wrong.
