Deep Dive - Dan McCarney

I watched part of it, but Dan got to rambling so stopped it. When I lived in CR many moons ago I quaffed a few with Dan one night. He played ball with a buddy of mine so I heard some hilarious stories. That was in his GA days.

I had some beers with him in the social part after a UI coaching clinic. He's a good guy with a very good football mind.

Does ramble a bit, but he still has that energy! I would doubt you could find any of his position players that wouldn't run through a brick wall for him. Had some decent stays as a head coach but is just one of those coaches that fits better as a coordinator or position coach which he excelled at ( .....see Bo Pelini.)

City High grad, UI offensive guard, had made the Atlanta Falcons team but left to become a coach at Iowa. Hayden kept him on staff. As a long-time DL coach a friend of LB coach Barry Alvarez and OL coach Kirk Ferentz. Left for Wisconsin when Alvarez took the job there.

I know he coached the clowns and did the best he could with what he had. But to me Dan will always be an Iowa Hawkeye.
