Daniel Jones...did the Giants get it right?

Yes it's just preseason but it's also preseason for the other QB's that "should" have went before Jones. By far he has been the most impressive rookie QB so far and hasn't even used his legs yet. Does he take Eli's job before the season is over? Still too early to tell anything but the amount of hate this kid gets is absurd.

I watched him live last night from Paul Brown Stadium. Now, I do think basing QB's off of preseason is dumb, mainly because no defensive packages are being unleashed, everything is vanilla base defense. However, he looked really really good. And against the same type of defense, Eli looked terrible.

I'm not gonna predict anything the Giants do this season because the owner seems to still be in love with Eli even though he seems washed. But what I can predict is that those NFL draft "experts" that laughed at Jones being taken #6 will be eating their words.

I'm a Giants fan and like what I see so far, but I'm not 100% sold just yet. The sample size has been small and against 2nd string defenses. Hes done what's been asked and has looked as good as he should against the defense shown but he needs to show it against starting NFL caliber defenses. He does struggle in pressure situations and when being behind in late situations. I think he is a smart guy and can get it together and he's in a decent situation to learn behind Manning and Shurmer and not having to be tossed out week one.

But he is doing it with 2nd string offenses.

My only concern about Daniel is he just doesn't seem to have a lot of zip on the ball. I'm assuming when the regular season starts the openings become narrower and I'm not sure he has the arm to get the ball into those tiny openings. His long ball is fine, it's the lasers that the best QBs seem to be able to throw. So far so good though and as a Giants fan, I am happy to have him on our team. His day will come--soon.

As a cowboys fan, please let Eli remain the starter.

I'm sure Eli will be the starter as long as he really doesn't screw up too bad. I want Daniel to be a star but I think Eli has been given an unfair shake. He's won two Super Bowls since the Cowboys have won one. I also think Eli will be a great mentor for Daniel. OFC

Yea he’s won more Super Bowls than a lot of TEAMS have. My point is, and I’m not an Eli hater, is he gives us the best chance of beating them right now.

Eli is far past his prime, but the Giants wasted most of his career by never providing and offensive line. You could pick 5 guys off this board and we could have done a better job. They have improved this year and have a great running back, but now lack at wideout especially until Tate comes back.

I can't believe there is so much debate about Eli on the internet.

Real Giants fans have lived and died with Eli for two decades. He came ready to play every game. We had lots of positions to worry about but not QB. We won't trade 2 Super Bowls for any fancy stats or exciting runs out of the pocket or more pinpoint passing. He always represented the franchise with dignity which being a Duke guy means a lot to me. If we were guaranteed that Daniel would have an Eli type career, I would take it in a heart beat.

Hoping he is a rookie sensation, The Giant fans can be tough. Hope they will be patient with him. I thought that Eli would have finished out this season and turned it over to Daniel. Are the Giants planning on trading Eli perhaps to my Colts? OFC

I feel bad for Eli. Hes been ripped for the last 6 or so years and has had crap to work with and absolutely no offensive line. He is way better than his 116-116 record. I know his days are behing him and I hope Jones can make a difference for the Giants. I hear rumbles of Eli maybe going to the Jags.

As a Giants fan and a Duke fan, I'm excited. That said, it's not gonna matter until the defensive scheme starts to include covering wide receivers.

I just hope Daniel doesn't get mauled by some unblocked 300 pounders . That to me is the worst case scenario.

Jones doesn't have concrete shoes like Eli, so he can buy a little more time for receivers and run the ball.

I feel bad for Eli.

Same. That said, I don't think he's a starting NFL quarterback anymore. He's just tried holding on too long. Not everyone can be elite until they're in the their upper 30s. I'd agree he hasn't had a lot to work with the last few years, but I maintain part of that falls on him, too.

Eli was a really, really good QB in the NFL. The last few years make it difficult to remember. His immediate legacy has deteriorated a bit....but I think a decade from now that will be restored.

True. But his real problem over the last few years is that the Giants overall were not a good team. Put Eli behind the Pats offense, and you would get a completely different story.

Debatable. I think that only diminishes what Tom Brady has done, because it implies Brady's really good because of a system. Brady's just really good. He's the best quarterback I've ever watched. Eli just doesn't compare whatsoever at this stage of his career.

Winston has 242 yds passing against Giants lousy defense and it is not even halftime.
Jones is in for some rough times until this team gets better players.

Kid is going to be a stud and definitely will be the best QB in the class. You won't here a peep from the talking heads on how clueless they were.

Make that 5 sacks. He's going to have a long career at that rate. OFC
Is it ok, if I just hope he doesn't get injured. I am a Panther fan. I care less about the Giants and am not about to wish him having great games. When they leave Duke, they are on the OTHER team...And , I hope the Panthers sack him on every down, when they meet....Hey, I do hope he has great games when they play Dallas or New England, does that count.

Daniel just ran it in for his second T.D. of the game to give the Giants the lead with a little over a minute left to play. He has passed for over 300 yards also. Despite two fumbles I would call his debut a great success. OFC

I just hope he doesn’t start wearing dresses like Cam Newton. Great game today by Jones. The NY media would not take to Newton. He would be roasted.

I'm a Colt fan but I hope Daniel and all Duke athletes that play pro ball in all sports to do well. They are Dukies. OFC

This Giants fan is so excited to the young man right now, but they better get something done with that O line and defense.

I don't care if he comes back or not either. His head , and heart, are no longer in the game. A lot of things are roasted in the NY media. Mainly anything that is not liberal...
We don't want to go there.

I am glad I drafted Daniel Jones in the 15th round of my fantasy football league. If Jared Goff is unimpressive for the 3rd straight game, I am going to start Jones over him. Jones had 37 fantasy points today!!!
