Wake had some pretty big losses last off-season. Doral Moore and Bryant Crawford stayed in the NBA Draft - even though they were unlikely to be drafted. Keyshawn Woods transferred to Ohio State. If Wake kept those 3 guys, they would be a top 50 team. The bigger question to me, is why did all 3 of those starters want out of the program? Maybe Moore/Crawford thought the team's ceiling was limited and they were ready to start their careers as pros, even if that meant playing overseas. Maybe Woods just wanted to have a more realistic chance of playing in the tournament... there has been a lot of transfers in the program. That is not a good trend for a struggling program.
Wake does have 3 guys on their team that were top 100 recruits- Chaundee Brown, Jaylen Hoard, and Isaiah Mucius. Childress has been a reliable player. Minimizing the roster turnover is the biggest factor effecting Wake, IMO. The burden of carrying the team seems to always be on the freshmen and sophomores. They have been severely lacking in veteran leadership/experience.
