The emergence of Cutter Woods definitely played into this, imho.

Also just seems like recruits who are ultra enthusiastic during recruiting, recruiting others, talking up the school a exorbitant amount, seem to always transfer, LOL

Started with Gary Grey then you had the linebacker Pup Howard, now Dante.

South Carolina quarterback Dante Reno has entered the transfer portal.
The South Carolina Gamecocks have been busy during the spring transfer portal window. They have made multiple additions to the roster but they have lost some players. Another one just departed from the roster as quarterback Dante Reno announced he has entered the transfer portal.

This news comes after South Carolina's spring game, which was last weekend. Reno's departure from the room makes sense considering the current outlook of the room. LaNorris Sellers is the obvious starter but the Gamecocks also played Luke Doty at quarterback during the spring, who had previously been playing wide out. The Gamecocks also added transfer Air Noland and true freshman Cutter Woods to the room.

The depth chart got crowded very quickly and so it seems as if Reno is going to look for his opportunity for playing time elsewhere.
Reno was rated a three-star recruit coming out of high school in the 2024 recruiting class. He was ranked the 516th-best player in the country, the 33rd-best quarterback and the fifth-best player in the state of Connecticut, according to composite rankings.

As for now, the quarterback position is set for South Carolina with Sellers still on the roster. But the moment Sellers makes the jump to the NFL, the Gamecocks will have some big decisions to make. For now, they will montior to see wher Reno ends up.

He would probably never have seen the field here for meaningful action.

True, he got passed by a true freshman, this spring. I also wonder how long Air Noland will stick around.
I imagine he will give it until next season. If Sellers does not go pro and and comes back next season I imagine he would hit the portal. I doubt he’s willing to sit behind someone for two years.

Noland may be our starting QB in 2026. If LaNorris has a big year in 2025, he may enter the draft. That's the thing about redshirting players these days especially if they hit the field and perform well. Two years, and bam, they're gone.

That would surprise me, I expect Cutter is our starting QB over Noland in 2026.

But 2026 is all fun speculation at this point, we can go back and look at later and see how it plays out. I'm very high on Cutter Wood's, long term potential.

I don't know what is going on with SC high school QB's being under recruited and under evaluated, I think this staff hit 2 in a row in Sellers and Cutter.

Dang. I hate that for Reno. He was all Gamecock….., well, until he wasn’t. 😄. I do wish him luck wherever he lands - as long as we don’t play him, I hope he tears it up.

If Woods beats Noland out, Noland willl most likely transfer. The loser in a QB battle usually leaves with how College Football is structured right now.

As long as we're speculating, I think sellars is our qb in 2026.

The whole "have to be 21 to be drafted" thing is absurd now. College players, no matter their age, are pro athletes now. If a player shows true talent as a freshman or sophomore i.e. Sellers, they should be able to go to the NFL.

Sellars will go pro after this season.
That’s the assumption, but he will have to make improvements in his game. As good as he was at times last year, he was not ready for the NFL yet. Of course it’s only great for us if he improves so much this year that he’s able to go pro next year.
