Dare I say, we're ... (gasp) kinda fun?

There are still some glaring issues, and we're not as good as MSU. But I feel like this is a watchable team that plays hard with some really promising talent. There's flashes of some special things on both ends of the floor. I'm feeling better about this team being able to win some B1G games, though I'm sure there will be a few ugly outings when the offense goes flat.

We might still go 3-17 or something but I'm happy to root for these guys.

We need one or two more guys to play with the confidence that Buie shows. Nance has it in flashes. Need one more guy.

Thought based on the early season games that Spencer might be that guy. But better competition has exposed his limitations.

I have to keep reminding myself this is a rebuilding season. Hope to see Kopp playing better. I guess he's recovering from illness but we need him to play better, which he is fully capable of doing.

I think we may only win 3-4 big ten games cause the league is so solid top to bottom and we are so inexperienced.

You might be right, but we can compete any night which should be fun. We really do have some nice talent and it will be fun to watch them grow.

Collins has brought in a lot of quality young talent, I love what I see from the frosh/sophs. This year might have its fair share bumps and bruises, but the future looks bright...

I like what I saw but if Buie didn’t go nuts from 3 we would have looked pretty awful.

If some more of those shots by Kopp, Beran, Spencer dropped in we would've liked pretty good. Works both ways, don't take away from a stellar performance by Boo.

This! You can’t knock Boo’s game if you’re not going to mention Kopp and Spencer having a really poor night. That’s the fun part of this team is any night one player can step up and have a great game.

I agree; saying the Cats would've looked poor without Boo's performance is kind of missing the point. One of the features of this Cats team is multiple good young players capable of going off on a given night. On the flip side, one aspect of that youth is the inconsistency that we see from them. We have both things going on; might as well enjoy the positive side while waiting for the inconsistency to improve with experience and work.

I think Spencer got lulled into a false sense of security playing some weaker competition early. He thought he could just dribble around, probing the defense and then use his athleticism to overpower guys. As we get into the BIG, he's realizing that doesn't work very well. He just doesn't have a great feel for the game at this level and understandably so.

It’s also like saying if Winston had a bad game... then MSU would have looked average. There will be a different key guy just about every game.

Let's face it, Spencer is not a LG/PG. Also it's time to limit minutes for Turner and Gaines.

Exactly right. They posted a graphic that MSU was shooting low to mid 30% from 3 point land this season, but shot mid 40% against us even with a decent defense. They just got hot and Winston made some plays.

I lost track of how many times over the last year I've said it, but basketball just isn't very fun to watch when you can't make any shots. Collins' teams have often struggled shooting, last year's team was consistently awful from the field from anyone who wasn't Pardon in the paint, and this year's team has struggled at times as well. Difference with this year's team is, they've also had games where they've shot pretty well, and therefore won or been competitive against more experienced or more talented teams. But knowing that a game isn't over because you're down 8 with 12 minutes to go makes it a much more enjoyable experience all around.

I was despondent after Merrimack and Radford because it felt like running last year back, which would have been a huge issue for the program. But Buie has emerged as a real piece already, and Beran and Young have impressed me as well from where I thought they might be this year. That's a core. It needs more talent. But it's enough to go to the studs in the coming class and show them what they're going to be adding to.

agree. in lax he could overpower guys, as a PG in big ten he's playing guys with quickness he's probably never seen and is not a true PG. I do think he could be a very good combo guard who helps with ball-handling, shoots open 3 and cuts/drives hard to the basket when there's a lane.

Turner's minutes have been limited. Gaines is best defender. Nothing really to replace them with. Spencer brings intangibles

Spencer brings intangibles, Gaines is best defender, Turner's minutes have already been limited and there is no one available to play those minutes you want to limit
