"It felt right. It felt like family," Adams told ESPN. "After watching them practice, I wanted to go work out. When the visit was over, I did not want to leave."

Adams developed a strong relationship with coach Dan Hurley, whose trademark sideline emotion was a plus in the Huskies' column.

"Love his intensity," Adams said. "He gets his shooters open. He gets you ready for the next level. He is relentless on the court. Hard on his players in a good way. Funny guy off the court in a little sarcastic way."

New decision.... I guess he doesn't want to become like Nowell/ the odd man out after Solo, Silas, Malachi Smith and Braylin Mullins ....With the 2 recent backcourt adds from the portal, I kinda thought the skinny Adams might be pushed back some in the rotation while he added a little more physically to his frame, especially vs. Big East competition. (listed at around 6-5/ 175 lbs by most sites)

I thought exactly the same as you- Adams was the 5th guard due to his body. So when you really analyze this it's a case of Hurley wanting to have his cake and eat it too. It's pretty clear from last year and 2 freshman transferring out that Hurley doesn't really trust freshman to pick up the complexities of his offensive system AND to also figure out how to play at the college level on defense and rebounding etc. So he expected a top 25 recruit to sit for a year and soak it in while he watched from the bench when he can be playing at almost any other school. This out of some vague notion of loyalty to Hurley and staff? Not very realistic if you ask me. Hurley wanted the cake of having experienced dudes to play in his rotation and to eat it while the freshman sat and learned. The bottom line was just too many "dudes" and not enough PT. No biggie, I don't begrudge Darius for his decision and wish him well at Tennessee or Michigan State.....or St. John's, see my post below.

The other aspect of this decision is that Hurley paints himself as a developmental coach who develops players who stay in his system but top 25 guys want to be developed out of the blocks whether you trust them or not. And they don't feel much trust when you recruit 2 experienced portal guards while last year's freshman who were top 50 players transferred out after getting little to no PT and were not allowed to play through mistakes, especially on D which can be expected. So like it or not Hurley is getting a rep of fondness for portal guards, starting with Newton, Diarra, and Spencer.

As for Adams, it would not surprise me if Rickey Pitino is all over him like a yeast infection. So this may have played right into the hands of Ricky P as he nabs the Jersey Boy. He needs guards and only Simeon Wilcher would be ahead of Adams.

I doubt it, Pitino is coaching on borrowed time at his age, plus he said awhile ago.....especially in the portal era..but if Adams wants be a member of the pine brothers in NYC...I did read some Mich St. chatter though.

He needs guard bodies. Maybe Adams accepts being a 3rd guard in the rotation instead of the th. BIG DIFFERENCE in minutes.

If Wilcher left which was totally unexpected because I think he was going to start, then Adams has to be high on the Ricky P wish list as either a starter or a 3rd guard. For Smith either is better than being the 5th guard in UConn's rotation, which he clearly was. TOO MANY GOOD DUDES.

Not really ...I think this year and a weak bodied addition like Mahaney and a small and inexperience kid like Noweell was an eye opener. Seems it was mutually agreed, according to the post above. Mullins on the other hand seems to have elite athleticism compered to Adams and be a Big East ready athlete like McNeelly ( with good positional size, he's been listed at 6-6/190 ). So a no-brainer for both parties looking back to his commitment and now moving forward with the recent adds.

PS...and I'm sure Hurley doesn't want another Nowell bitching party, from the outside like last year.

Maybe he should talk to Nahieme Alleyne about Pitino, getting PT promises and being lied to after Tricky Ricky recruits over him.
Well we don't know what PT promises Adams got from Hurley. Ball coming back may not have been foreseeable but he went out and recruited 2 portal guards. Didn't Adams get recruited over? He has gone from starter when he committed to 5th guard in the rotation.

No unlike Nahiem did getting promised by the snake oil salesman Pitino. Adams will never lose a minute sitting on the bench @ Uconn, because a truthful conversation (when things change) will now allow the recruit to check out other options. Especially since letters of intent in this new NIL era, can be changed on the fly...... by both parties, it seems.

The Michigan State blogs seem to think the 3 primary suitors for Adams will be Michigan State, Tennessee and Alabama, all of which can offer Adams more PT than UConn would have.
