Observations from tonight...

*Darkside voters apparently missed the boat on the Bolingbrook Raiders, not having them even listed. Was really impressed with their defense, overall athleticism, speed, and balanced offense when I saw them a few weeks back. All they did tonight was dismantle a solid Sandburg 52-7. They look like a top ten team to me.

*St. Charles East, a team that many were high on this year, really struggled tonight- beating Geneva just 23-16. Game went down to the wire. Geneva (you might remember) got blown out by JCA, who got dominated by Wheaton North, who lost tonight by 19 at Naper North. I think West Aurora wins that conference.

*Lincoln-Way Central is back! After suffering through six straight non-winning seasons, the Knights returned to the playoffs last year. They are off to a 3-0 start this year, with tonight's 48-6 blowout over Thornwood. The closing of Lincoln-way North has really bolstered the talent level at LWC and LWE.

*Some JCA fans were really high on the Hilltoppers after an impressive win over Geneva in week one, but it looks like they are definitely a year away now that they have dropped the last two games. Will be hard to get to five wins.

*Darkside voters had Lake Park at #12, inexplicably placing them ahead of Bolingbrook. With their loss to a solid 6a DeKalb tonight, it is now time to give some Dark love to the Raiders.

Have to see what happens today. My top 10 looks pretty safe unless my feeto's friday prediction comes to fruition. St. Charles East I was neutral on, but I'll take SCN over them. West Aurora is a team I need to look at for DSR. LWC got a gift from the schedule gods this year too.

As for JCA they're just going to have to scratch and claw. Ugly wins count too so go out and get some ugly ones.

West Aurora and SCE are in different halfs of the Upstate Eight and won't play. Winner of SCE/Batavia will win that conference.

Both SCE and Batavia are much better than SCN.

Didn't see the SCE/Geneva game, but looking at total yards, SCE still dominated the game. I expect them to beat SCN by at least 2 TDs next week before the big Batavia showdown.

In terms of sleepers, Batavia is the team too many folks are sleeping on.

Agree on Brook but biggest mover for me is Barrington. NT had their best team in years but were completely humbled by Barrington in the Grey Poupon Bowl.

Imma let the StC boys work that out before fully committing.

Today's games impact on DSR is huge. Strap in

We will find out about the Brook this upcoming week against H-F. I suspect they are for real too. They always have athletes. They are getting good QB play this year. I agree with the Barrington and Batavia comments. Both can make strong cases for consideration. This is shaping up as an interesting year. Many qualified candidates.

Ok seriously everyone stop with Barrington. Until they can win a playoff game that matters they shouldn't be in the DSR's.

As for Brook and HF, they're on a collision course next week as I'm unconvinced on either team,.... FOR NOW.

Lake Park losing easily knocked them out. WV's 20-something point loss might have knocked them out anyway.

I put Marist and Naperville North in and took out LP and ND

New Trier was better last year. They lost to Warren last week too. Not sold on Barrington yet either. They graduated a ton last year.

JCA beat Geneva by 7 and outgained them by 34 yards.

So, H-F and 'Brook have to beat each other while other teams get to beat South Bend & WWS?

Box score results only tell so much. DSR panel members should be required to see a team in person (or full game video) before they rank them.

I'm moving a team up a few spots after watching a full film on them.

Final score closer than the game actually was, but your point noted. My point... JCA and Geneva both down again this year, so not sold yet on SCE.

dont completely disagree on SCE (though I think their defense is much better than lastyear). That said, they are the type of team noone wants to see in the playoffs because of how well they run that triple option and can milk the clock. I think they likely go 8-1 (lose to batavia) and could give a top 8A team a potential upset in the 2nd round.
