Had 14 tackles, 9 of them solo. He was all over the field. I remember people commenting that he was too small for the NFL.

He is still small for an NFL LB and I think he plays as a back up usually. At least that was what he did last season, but he's been a competent enough player to stick around on the roster.

No, that's not what he does....but thanks for attempting to **** on another WVU player.

EDIT: He starts, and is the team's leading tackler. Educate yourself before looking like a hater.

First, I'm not attempting to **** on anyone. Second, it is true that he is smaller than the average player at his position. Lastly he wasn't a starter last year as noted below.

Looks like he wasn't the starter at the beginning of October either based upon this:

Maybe it has something to do with the starters season ending injury:

Now that I've been "educated" and proved everything I said was right, maybe we can not be so sensitive and jump to assigning motives when the reality of the situation is presented.

You mean too sensitive that when someone posts a positive thread about a former WVU great in the NFL, that someone gets on here to say they aren't a starter and are undersized???? Instead of saying POSITIVE things? Yeah, is that what you mean?

You posted and I quote "I remember people commenting that he was too small for the NFL." I responded that while Long is a very competent player, those comments you were alluding to are true. And it is a big enough problem that he is not a starter. Nothing wrong with that. Gary Stills spent several years with Kansas City as a competent back up and special teams contributor. Long did have a hell of game. Unfortunately, like Nick Kwiatkowski for the Raiders, those tackle numbers are inflated by an overall bad defense that can't get off the field. Easier to get tackles when the defense has to play more snaps per opponents' drives.

So as you can see, I am not shitting on Long. And I'm not being negative toward him by recognizing that those things you remember are true.

STFU hater.

The worse defensive units in the NFL have the most tackles. Unless your defense is giving up nothing but huge plays for touchdowns, the defenses that allow sustained drives by the opposing offense will have a greater number of tackles. The defense that keeps the opposing offense from running more plays will have less opportunities to make tackles. I never said that fact diminishes the individual player that is making those tackles. For example, Ray Lewis didn't always lead the league in tackles when the Ravens had a good defensive season. He did during a season where they were 8-8 and the defense as a whole was not as good. Neither case makes him less of a great player. But he also plays the position in the defense that is MEANT to get the most opportunities for tackles.

Either way, stop being a dick by just yelling and calling me a hater. You were the one who snidely implied that anyone who said Long was undersized for the position was widely off base because of one good performance as starter. You then stated facts that were presented were wrong in your ignorance and now you are just saving face by talking ****.

Instead of talking good about Long, all you have done is made excuses as to why he is the team's leading tackler, or how he wasn't a starter. That's a H-A-T-E-R.

EDIT: I went back and looked, not once did you say he was playing great.

I'm the hater for knowing more about the guy's career and performance than you? You just came in after this one game and didn't even know he was starting for an injured player. Also I said he had a hell of a game. All I did was note that your remark that some people thought he was too small for the NFL was accurate and that those people had merit in that assessment. He is a good player and maybe he has turned the corner on possibly being a starter, but one game does not a starter make. Being realistic does not make a hater, it's just choosing to be an objective fan over a rose tinted homer.

Go back and look retard, you NEVER SAID HE HAD A GREAT GAME. Instead, you said he wasn't a starter, he only makes tackles because his team's defense sucks, and that he's a quality "backup". You aren't a "rose tinted homer", that's for damn sure. When a WVU player has a good game in the NFL, you **** on them.

That's a FACT, so STFU.

HATER.

First, only one of is coming off as an overly emotionally and intellectually stunted person and that's certainly you. I did look back and even quoted what I said and you again double down on being wrong just like you did when I confirmed Long was not the regular starter for the Titans. I said Long is a good and competent player. I said he had a hell of a game. I also said his size is a detriment to his chances of being an every down starter in the NFL and his career so far has shown that.

But I'll stop trying to use logic and adult language since your responses clearly prove you to be an easily butt hurt twerp. So I'll use the easy words a knuckle dragging internet tough talker can understand ... **** off.

But that's what keeps 75% of the posters busy here.

Apparently it does with this guy. I dare to objectively assess a former WVU player and that's tantamount to shitting on them. Then the tool who doesn't even know the guy's career, gets on his high horse calling the one who does at least peripherally follow the guy's exploits as the "hater." Lastly he confidently states "facts" that happen to be untrue and directly contradicted by references. It's all or nothing apparently and you're either drooling with adoration or you're a "hater"

Could you show me where you said he had a "hell of a game"?

EDIT: I found that statement. Never mind. I'll apologize for that, but still will claim that you HATE on WVU success in the NFL. That's a fact by you pointing out all of Long's negatives.

Kudos for the apology. I'll have to disagree that pointing out Long has a big hurdle to overcome with his size to be a consistent starter in the NFL is hating on his success. Like I said with Gary Stills, being a quality utility player and competent back-up player without being a starter is still successful. I know everyone wants to be the best, but there is no shame in being a long-term back up especially when the team knows they'll get quality play when they really need it. Hence, if Long continues his career just as it has gone the last 3 years, I'd still call it a success.
