Now that's uncalled for...

he can blow all that out his whiny, yuppie, west coast, entitled, "stanford gave me a football scholarship because my daddy coached there...so i'm better than you..." ***...

the laws of economics, physics, mathematics, etc...don't change from Tuscaloosa Alabama to Palo Alto California...

he's mad that he never cracked a national title in the old BCS and he probably won't in the new Play offs...

and he's got kids from Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Tennessee on his team...so apparently he doesn't even buy his own BS...

I would have cut him off if I was finebaum...

People in California and New England think we in the south are racist and discriminate...look at them...

Imagine if Cal popped off with some sort of comment like this...god almighty...

What he's saying is that poor blacks can't qualify for Stanford. That's what he's saying with a statement like that. He sure as hell won't be getting anyone from the South now so he shouldn't waste his time

I take it that he isn't,t thrilled about going across the country to practice ala Harbaugh, and get none or maybe 1 recruit that could impact Stanford football, which BTW is doing very well of late !

He just tanked his ability to recruit this region. I know generally he would recruit California and the upper North West but people will remember this if he goes to recruit a kid from Nashville or fort Myers, or any other city in the South. There are smart kids here and smart kids who play football in the South. Stanford is great academically but let's not act like vandy, uva, Duke, Georgia tech aren't great schools. And Florida and Miami rank in top 50.

It's hyperbole of course but there is some truth to what he is saying. Alabama and Mississippi rank at the bottom of the 50 states in public schools and Louisiana and Tennessee are not much better:

http://www.usnews.com/education/best-high-schools/articles/how-states-compare
That link tells us absolutely nothing- it's not a ranking of public schools. "Gold and silver medal" high schools? And ranking dead last is South Dakota? Really? Ohio is no. 7? Yeah, I wish! LOL.

Shaw makes a piss poor point to either get a few laughs or maybe just to vent some frustration. He's wrong in any event. There are kids from all over the south, especially in schools in places like suburban Atlanta, Tampa, Charlotte, etc, that can easily qualify for Stanford. Given the high quality of public schools in Lexington, I'll bet anything there are plenty of kids from there who can make it as well.

My HS ranked pretty low in the state of Kentucky and we, as a state, rank pretty low. Didn't stop 2 of my classmates from going to west point and one to MIT. It was a jerk move and will come back to bite him eventually.

NASA is in Huntsville. I suspect he knows taking football players from SEC territory is nearly impossible for Stanford, regardless of a kid's intellect. Maybe Bama is fighting for some kid in Cali or Nevada and Shaw is trying to impress that kid.

Between these comments and their pompous "band" - Stanford is becoming one of the schools I root against

To which I would retort, how many Stanford football players would REALLY get into Stanford, if they weren't football players? A few would, and I would venture to guess that many others wouldn't.

Very few, Stanford has one of the lowest accept rates in the country, if not the lowest. Unique school, getting accepted is tough, if your parents make less than 65k, its 100%, everything, room, meals, tuition, books. If less than 120k, all you pay is dorm. It takes a 1500 on the SAT for a football player to get in, or even take an official, the only reason I know that is a kid who hasn't signed has taken it about 5 times trying to get a 1500. Then he has to answer 6 essay questions to get accepted. For a regular student, its a 2300+ SAT to get in. Back in the 60's when I took it you could triple mine and I barely had that. My son took it for a gifted program in the 7th grade and made 1300 out of 1600. He asked me what I made and I told him it had been so long I had forgotten.

Won't need to outside of California or west coast much to recruit but that was stupid. Will tick off more people than south.

SMH, if you allowed a comment like that to keep you from accepting a scholly to Stanford it would just go to prove that you weren't smart enough to make it there anyway.

Funny thing is 17% of Harvard enrollees come from the south. Guess Shaw needs to do his homework. I turned down Ivy League offers to go to UK, and I work with a couple of Stanford grads. The diploma looks great on the wall if you get a degree from Stanford, but unless you are law or med you usually wind up in the same place in the end.

Arrogant and elitist attitude. If a white coach would have said this he would be unemployed. Sounds like a jerk to me. "Entire state" really? Very pompous.

He can talk all he wants out there, but he doesn't want any part of the SEC and he knows Stanford won't be playing any SEC opponent so he takes shots at the conference like a lot of the others do. Talk is cheap, young coach with a big mouth.
