We run less plays because we can't convert 1st downs. There are a lot of factors that go into this offense's terrible performance this year. It's a culmination of poor play calling, poor line play, poor qb play, poor wr play. There is plenty of blame to go around. If not for Boom this offense's numbers would be even worse.I'm beginning to wonder if Dawson is the problem here. This would be 2 Air Raid OC's in 3 years. Dawson and Brown averaged over 80 plays on Offense on the stop before they got to KY. Now we are somewhere in the middle 60's.in terms of plays run during a game.. So now we are saying both guys decided the day they got here to stop doing what had made them successful and run over 20% less plays on offense. Something odd about that.. Just saying,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Odd...not to me..a reason behind it...listen to the head talk about offenseI'm beginning to wonder if Dawson is the problem here. This would be 2 Air Raid OC's in 3 years. Is it possible it's not confused coaching or an undeveloped philosophy/identity, and maybe it's just poor line play and inconsistent quarterbacking? What's funny is people (including me) were saying the same thing about hoping Troy would take Brown. Let's say Dawson gets the gig. All I'm hoping is Stoops is smart enough or isn't forced into hiring another air raid diciple.
Yes, there is a lot of blame to go around but after two air raid guys with a head coach that is more ball control and defense orientied, with the same problems for years, I'm starting to think it's a philosophy issue. This team is a mixed bag on offense and has no identity. I don't think it's a coincidence that you've had 2 different philosophies on offense in a head coach and the OC & you contrive to struggle to find an identity.

^I disagree. Stoops said before he hired Brown that he does want the Air Raid offense and that one that goes up tempo at times. Heck, Stoops has even hired 2 Air Raid guys.....I think it's pretty clear that he wants to run it. I just don't think we've been able to execute plays slow......which means up tempo is certainly off the board.
The personnel has been dreadful since Stoops took over. It's improving but it was dreadful. Brown threw it 44% of the time in yr one. 48% of the time in yr 2. 51% of the time in yr 3 (Dawson). And I would argue that the passing would be higher already if we could protect, pass, or catch. But, unfortunately, the only thing we've been able to do with fair consistency is run the ball.
I don't think Dawson leaves. I don't think he's one of the better candidates that's on ULM's list. That's not a shot against his performance this past yr, but more to say that I think ULM will go after someone that has a better resume at this time. If Dawson continues to trend he'll get a HC position before too long.
And my argument would be that we haven't even tried to go up tempo. I know the personnel was bad and is getting better, but we haven't even tried to do anything that resembles a tempo. I think it would definitely help the offensive line out.
Another thing, which would you feel better about: our offense going up tempo and trying to outscore people or going like we are and relying on our defense to try to hold people to below 30?
I mean, our defense isn't going to stop people consistently. We might as well let the offense loose and keep us in games.
