Attempting to put all thoughts of Omoruyi out of my head, I'm excited for this group of guys next year. I think they have a lot of upside, and the potential to surprise people - and I'm curious if we do anything more for the roster this year with the two open spots.
Can't wait to see how some of the freshmen have matured, and how the new pieces fit into the puzzle. Glad that they're getting the Spain trip in, which should help team chemistry and help get them a little head start on playing organized ball together as a unit. I'm also excited to see more threes, which we will inevitably see given the roster changes.

Looking at the three point attempts specifically....
Last season 3PA per 40 min (and avg min/g)
7.1 - Kiss (18.1 min)
6.7 - Baker (34.0)
6.3 - Harper (22.3)
5.9 - Thiam (17.0)
4.7 - McConnell (15.5)
3.8 - Mathis (22.9)
2.2 - Omoruyi (29.2)
This season, plugging in the 3PA per 40 from Young/Yeboah's last seasons:
8.2 - Yeboah
7.4 - Young
7.1 - Kiss
6.7 - Baker
6.3 - Harper
4.7 - McConnell
3.8 - Mathis
?? - Mulcahy
Just on the surface, we're swapping Omoruyi and Thiam for Yeboah and Young. I know this is highly reductionist..... but if we plug and play with the same minutes Omoruyi/Thiam played this year, but with the 3P shooting stats of Yeboah/Young's last played season...
- If Yeboah played 29.2 min/g, that would have been an extra 3.8 attempts per game... and if you assume his prior season .316 rate (which may be higher when fully healthy), that'd be an extra 1.4 made threes per game.
- If Young played 17.0 min/g, that's another 0.6 attempts per game... at his prior season .323 rate, that would be another 0.2 makes per game.
That would have raised our made threes per game from 6.2 (12th in the B1G) to 7.8 (tied for 4th in the B1G with Michigan and Illinois)
Now, that's wild speculation with a lot of assumptions re: minutes and percentages... but we'll definitely see an increase in attempts next year, especially from the PF spot. We're going to have five guys on the roster who pulled the trigger at least 6.3 times per 40/min in their last season... I don't think we've ever had that at Rutgers (definitely not in the last 20 years).
That will surely change the way defenses approach us.... we'll probably see less zone, and more man extending past the perimeter... which could open things up for Johnson underneath. Really excited to see how the offense takes shape.

Sorry to be a buzzkill. You have omitted the quality aspect of the analysis. Lifetime 3pt % Of most on that list is dreadful. The lack of Eugene won’t help the quality of the shot.
I just swapped Yeboah for Omoruyi and Young for Thiam.... both had a better % last year than the player they're replacing. If you look at career numbers for Yeboah, it's higher than last season, while career for Young is lower.
8.2 - Yeboah (.313 last season, .335 career.... was .389 last year before his knee injury and averaged .349 his first two healthy seasons. I'd expect closer to .350 next year, and possibly higher)
7.4 - Young (.323 last season, .271 career... no idea what we'll see this year, tbh)
7.1 - Kiss (.302 last season, .288 career... would expect more of the same)
6.7 - Baker (.341 last season, .350 career.... was higher playing off ball, so may improve a bit this year if he can see more time at SG)
6.3 - Harper (.278 last season, but .348 in conference play.... is it that it just took him time to get comfortable, or will we see more streakiness next year?)
4.7 - McConnell (.357 last season, but .410 in conference play.... better numbers, but same question as with Harper)
3.8 - Mathis (.239 last season, .269 in conference play... not expecting him to be a shooter, and doesn't take a ton of them)
?? - Mulcahy (no idea what to expect)
Best case scenario.... Yeboah, Baker, and McConnell all shoot over .350, Harper and Young sit in the .333-350 range, and Kiss/Mathis hover in the .280-.310 range. Mulcahy comes in shooting over .320.
Worst case scenario.... Baker and McConnell hover around .340-.350, Harper/Yeboah/Young/Kiss are in the .290-.325 range, Mathis stays in the .250 range. Mulcahy comes in shooting sub .300.
One thing about having more trigger-happy shooters is the "live by the three, die by the three" factor, where we could have several guys click one night and knock off a top tier program and then no one click another night and get knocked off by someone we should have beaten. For those that like threes, though, it should be a fun year.
Another part of that analysis.......
Will 6'5'' Yeboah be able to stay on the court as a 4th perimeter player. I know Paul is tall, but not a good look when your 4 is standing next to your PG and they have identical bodies.
I hope Ron has a good offseason in the gym. It is essential he gains 5-10 pounds of muscle.

You can't measure wills in inches.
Think about Deshawn Freeman, Mike Williams, etc. Who wants it more. It's not all a numbers game. It's strength, will, knowledge of game, positioning, etc.
Well, identical heights, maybe - Mulcahy is 185 and Yeboah is 235. Curious to know what their official measurements come in at once the 2019-20 roster is posted. I know Pikiell has referred to Mulcahy as 6-6 in interviews, and he's listed as 6-6 on the sk.com signing article.

Based on the picture, Yeboah doesn't seem like a B10 power forward. He seems 6'4", maybe 6'5" and is too thin to bang. I don't think Harper's best spot is a 4 either. Can anyone say Shaq Carter?
Who the hell are you looking at? Yeboah’s his arms are twice the size of either guys to his right. They also appearer to be a lot more muscular..
What you described is an old school power forward. There are also new school power forwards.
Ask the guys who are 240 and can't make free throws how they like guarding guys out to the 3pt line.
Paul actually looks an inch taller than Yeboah, but pics can be decieving. Daniel definitely needs that weight room.

With Happ, Murphy, Pardon, Ward, and Fernando out of the conference, there aren't many players left who live solely in the paint. Only Illinois and Purdue have two of them.
Illinois has Giorgi Bezhanishvili and Kofi Cockburn, and Purdue has Matt Haarms and Trevion Williams. Penn State has Mike Watkins, Minnesota has Daniel Oturu, and Michigan State has Xavier Tillman.
But guys like Jalen Smith, Luka Garza, Kaleb Wesson, Jon Teske, Nate Reuvers, etc need to be guarded on the perimeter as well.

Sorry to say I am a bit worried about Yeboah's height/size also. If Mulcahy is 6-6, then Yeboah looks like he's 6-5.
That said, maybe Pike is intending on going full-"Beilein" -- one "big" and four interchangeable guards/wings -- now that he has the wing players to do so.
Yeboah is no smaller than Gene. Looking back at pics, Harper had an inch on Gene when he came in
Who's the best frontcourt against PSU, for example, who returns Watkins (6'9" - 254), Stevens (6'8" - 230), and Harrar (6'9" - 243)?
Have to go back and look... Stevens is more a perimeter guy. Who can Harper take advantage of on the O end. Maybe Carter gets more minutes there

I'd be curious to know how often those two played together. Seemed like they preferred the 4-out offense with one on the floor at a time.
