The more I hear about him, the more I like. Sounds like he wants to prove a lot. Definitely a high risk, hopefully high reward hire for Rhule.
It's a huge swing, how good is Rhule at identifying early G5 to P4 coaching talent? Cause G5 can crash and burn or it can be a legendary DC.

Have RBigRedMax google it for you.
Nationally, according to Grok and I'm not gonna double check it... Didn't check their SOS or any defensive stats other than what their national ranking was on defense in each year.

2021 # 112
2022 # 45
2023 # 68
2024 # 132
2025 # 35

Two outstanding, 1 decent, 1 really poor, and 1 terrible year (outstanding compared to the 2 failures)

that's not the way Bo rolls, but I agree, he likely has zero interest in it.. but he does fit the bill as far as developing guys. I'm not sure Bo would run another scheme though, as he had problems with defending the run for a couple years as well.

That video also has some good information on why Rhule may already know who he is going after, but can't say anything because the next guy is probably prepping for a bowl or maybe the playoff.

It was interesting that the press asked Rhule if he needed any help with the hire, and Rhule kind of poo poo'd that idea real quick, so he's not about to take suggestions it seems on the defensive side of the ball.
We cannot be serious about stopping the run and then hire the guy that gave up 408 yards in three quarters to Melvin Gordon.

It’s truly a huge risk, Rhule looks like a genius if he’s right. May be gone gone if he’s wrong

Those numbers look weird to me, and I'm not sure they're entirely accurate if you used Grok since LLMs by and large struggle with numbers.

Going by scoring defense on sports-reference:

2020: 36th
2021: 27th
2022: 55th
2023: 22nd
2024: 47th
2025: 4th

Before he got there:

2017: 61st
2018: 84th
2019: 101st

People need to stop using Grok. It's not accurate at all. I'd be more than happy if we picked up Toledo DC.

once again, people confuse Bo's time at Nebraska as a defensive coordinator with his time at Nebraska as a head coach.
so you’re saying that bozo didn’t ha any input in defensive schemes, when he supported to be the guru? TO said when he hired him was to fix the defense

As a head coach, that "bozo" was a winner.. 9 wins minimum, in the B1G.. and don't forget it took "bozo" Tom Osborne more than a decade of 9 wins to get over the hump.

As a defensive coordinator where he could focus solely on defense alone, we did not have the breakdowns that JP had. Can you imagine for a moment all the extra duties that you would have if you were the head coach vs a coordinator? tell me that all those extra duties would not take away from your time to coordinate a defense?

Yes it was Bo's scheme, but JP ran it and he didn't run it as good as Bo did. If this doesn't make sense to you, then I don't know what to tell you.

Make excuses for him. How many blow out in those nine wins season? Didn’t Wisconsin put up 70 on him? Rhule has had several blow outs but nothing like that. He’s Bo is such a head case n school wants anything to do with him. If by some strange reason he would be hired dc it would be nothing but a revenge tour scorched earth

I'm not making excuses I'm telling you the reality. He was the effing head coach. Don't you remember all the crap they were doing trying to soften him up around the edges so he was more presentable as a head coach? he was told to let go of the defensive reigns and such.. I can't believe some of you people have such short and myopic hindsight. I'm also not advocating for him as a head coach, but a defensive coordinator. You effing people piss me off.. it's the exact reason why Nebraska sucks and will continue to suck because fans like you collectively steer Nebraska into more trouble. You all wanted him fired. You got it. And here we sit, 13 years later in a much worse position and it just keeps repeating. I really do, I start to blame you pricks, for effing up the program.

Mt. Union is a legit football program, the D3 powerhouse. His defenses have been at or near the top of the MAC since he’s been there and NU has been running a hybrid D in the vein of his for three years. Would be a solid hire. Get him hired and get moving in the portal.

How do know he was told to give up defensive reign? You keep crying that bozo was fired pretty soon the Missouri River will overflow. I have no power to steer Nebraska football in any direction!

This is Bo Pelini's most recent body of work as a defensive coordinator (not head coach):

Points given up, by game:

44, 7, 45, 24, 48, 24, 20, 55, 34, 48

That's who he is.

Yeah and without looking, I will just go ahead and assume the one 7 was against some directional D2 doormat. I’d say he pissed his pants in more ways than one. Swidt? 😂
