Kind of a weird postion. Db coach seems like a good coach and recruiter. OLB coach is a great recruiter. No major complaints about Dvoracek. Leery of the DL coach. Most legit DC's want at least a guy or 2 of their choosing.
Not allowing the next DC to choose his assistants will severely limit the pool of potential hires. Even if a good DC came here, if he were saddled with our position coaches the product on the field would suffer. Look at Dana Holgerson. How much better would the offense be if he had his own guys and could run it how he wanted? Statistically this was one his worst offensive years and it isn't because he suddenly forgot how to coach. Nebraska keeps getting bogged down with lesser priorities and is not fully committed doing whatever it takes to win. We take on inefficiencies like a boat taking on water and the results are predictable.

at this point I don’t care. Roll the dice with Ek. Bring Busch out of retirement. Promote Dworak (we’re going to lose him at some point) that dude is a bright climber. Theres a ton of guys whose bosses have moved or been canned. Butler clearly wasn’t the guy. There’s a ton of bright young guys out there. It doesn’t have to be a big name.

Not buying this line of thinking. I've followed a lot of coaching searches and I can't think of a single time when the head coach just hired the DC and OC then sat back and let those two fill out their staffs on both sides of the ball. They might have like 1 position coach they insist on bringing with them and certainly have input on the others. But those hires largely fall to head coach's responsibility from everything I've ever seen.

I agree with you on the "Run it" part... still holding onto Sats playbook... as for assistants, he already brought his WR coach and now he'll get a good OL coach... I truly think Dana looked Matt in the face and said something to the effect of "I don't care what offense you want me to run, it's not gonna fly with that dude putting out inept product"

I don't think it's typical for a coordinator to totally clean house in the middle of a HC's term. They usually bring a guy or 2, often it seems like grad assistants as much as anything. Now a DC being hired with a brand new HC, yeah, might bring another couple people with him.

Brent Pry is staying at VT as DC after getting fired there as head coach. That has to be a bit awkward.

Jim was proven a good dc unlike Donnie he was a assistant in the nfl nothing proven big difference
We’ve taken a beating hiring Wisconsin guys lately. IF I remember correctly, Charlie came from there though. It’s just the Cozgrove, Eichorst, Donnie recent history that gives me pause.

Gutsy move by Franklin. Kinda weird but might pay dividends in defensive continuity and player retention.

Rhule:
Hey we need a serious DC, but I’m going to dictate some coaches, and I’m going to hover like hell because I’m a defensive expert. We’ll pay you a ton though, and I might be gone soon.

Leonhard:
Bro, seriously go **** yourself.
then Rhule isn’t very serious about hiring a top dc, he let dana pick the receivers coach

So, a fired head coach goes back to the school that fired him to be defensive coordinator. Interesting.

Way weird.
Well Pry was a PSU guy. He might have previously worked with or at least is an acquaintance of Franklin. Might make it a little less weird. It’s kind of similar as Satt being demoted to TE coach from OC. I’m assuming they have to keep paying him so keeping him on as DC makes some sense. Kind of a win win for all parties even if it’s weird. Will be interesting to watch.

Snow coordinated some very good defenses at Temple and Baylor. I know people are butt hurt over the way the season ended. But the Snow sucks stuff is just making sh*t up.
His input has clearly added nothing of value.

And those defenses at Temple and Baylor would give up 50+ to the titans of the B1G.

Dude is washed and more in want of retirement.

Hiring Snow would be like Penn State hiring their interim HC, a clear sign that nobody wanted the job.

Im sorry. After sitting through 3 quarters of the iowa game, I was at a low point.

I think now that we have a new online coach and a new DC im ready to he hurt again.

Im happy with both hires. Having bad line play is painful. Im hoping that stops now.
