Sirius XM streaming the show tonight from Barton Hall at Cornell. Dead and Co replicating their 1977 show there. Pre show at 6:30 show 7:30.

I am not a big Dead fan but that is absolutely my favorite album. Terrapin Station is in my top 10.I just listened to the 5/8/77 FLACs whilst floating in the pool, imbibing.

Edit: Blues for Allah is also very good.
It’s hard to pick but when I listen to the May 77 box set, I always gravitate to Buffalo. When I listen to 77 in general, I always pick the Swing Auditorium show which was the first show for the 77 tour. Live debuts for both Estimated and Terrapin which are both outstanding. I would have loved to be there tonight just for the merch alone. God Bless the GD!If you dig Terrapin Station then you'll dig the Spring '77 tour. 3 days in a row; 5/7 Boston, 5/8 Cornell, 5/9 Buffalo are three incredible shows in a row that feature all the best of Terrapin Station along with side one of Blues for Allah opening the Buffalo show. Smell the air outside, that's what these shows are made of, right now 46 years ago.
I was listening to 5/8/77 Cornell today, Rudedude seems to have a link playing the whole thing in order. Just listen to the second song there, "Loser". It's sublime. I could go on but the whole show is a sick masterclass. But the nights before and after are amazing too.
Do yourself a favor and figure out how to stream Buffalo tomorrow for it's 46th birthday. You'll dig the Help On The Way-> Slipknot!-> Franklin's Tower intro for sure. Check out the Terrapin Station from Boston and stay for the sick Eyes Of The World-> Drums-> The Wheel-> Wharf Rat. That one just got released for RSD so copies may still be found close to retail.

I go back and forth but I do feel that 72>77. I was a big fan of Keith’s playing and I think that early Keith is his best playing. It’s all good to me though. That San Berdu show from February is great too. My favorite '77 show is 6/9/77. The setlist is just exactly perfect and they rock out so hard in the second set. Sometimes I feel like I'm getting burnt out on '77 but usually I just need a break. That's what '72 is for.
I thought that we had a conversation about this run awhile ago and you were not the biggest fan of the shows surrounding Barton Hall? I must be remembering the conversation incorrectly. Your above may be just in reference to TS songs in the setlist but I think Boston and Buffalo are every bit as good if not better than Barton Hall. The entire spring run of 77 is fantastic! If you dig Terrapin Station then you'll dig the Spring '77 tour. 3 days in a row; 5/7 Boston, 5/8 Cornell, 5/9 Buffalo are three incredible shows in a row that feature all the best of Terrapin Station along with side one of Blues for Allah opening the Buffalo show. All that said, the current iteration of the band was on last night. The show was fun. Also, the OP stated that they "replicated" the 77 show, that's not accurate. They played several songs that did not exist at the time of the original show but after listening to the show last night I may need to get tix for the run in Boulder.
4/22/77. Philadelphia, the Spectrum. The Grateful Dead ended their show with :
Got My Mojo Working
The Wheel
Terrapin Station.
There was no encore. It was an epic evening with the first 20 or so songs classic for that era. Most of us the n the audience had yet to really hear or feel Terrapin. The crowd was stunned into silence.
While the band was finishing up that epic ending, the facility management was out on the stage waving them to shut it down. This was near midnight. They never really played an encore. Mesmerized and stoned to the gills, we all walked out into the Spring evening as if we had had a collective real religious experience. I can still feel it to this day.
Later that Summer, Englishtown happened, again, epic. The only difference was the walk was much longer in Englishtown to find our car.
Then it was drive back to State College to drop my brother off who was a junior at the time.
It very well may have been the first East Coast Terrapin as well. Certainly the awe with which everyone was in made it seem that way.Respect.

By Englishtown the backdrop on stage was the massive single eye skull. Terrapin left its mark.
One thing about 72 that trumps 77 is they only had one drummer. Having two is fun but you can't turn that machine on a dime like they could with only one man behind the kit. Philadelphia Spectrum 9/21/72 now that's a show and a half!
The wildest concert I ever attended was Jerry Garcia and Friends, March 25, 1972 at the Academy of Music in NYC. My cousin in New York got tickets, and I drove in from the Lehigh Valley. It turned out to be the Dead, with Bo Diddly sitting in for the first set.
Almost the entire venue was filled with Hell's Angels, with the last few rows of seats sold to the public. It must have been the first week Donna and Keith Godchaux were in the band, because a girl sitting near me kept yelling, "Who's the chick singer?"
IMHO, 1972-73 was about the pinnacle for the Dead. Even though I love their stuff from 67-71, I think they had honed their craft as songwriters and fine tuned their vocal harmonies by 72.I go back and forth but I do feel that 72>77. And if we're talking best concert (from the usual list of favorites), I'm a Harpur College 70 guy. Acoustic set and Viola Lee Blues puts it over the top.
Hell yeah. Remember hearing it for the first time and was blown away. Love me some Pigpen.Don't forget James Brown! Its a mans world.

Listening to it right now. It's been too long.Glad to hear you are on the bus.
The Dicks series ended so strong. I love 30 and 29 from the Fox is great as well. Not to mention Englishtown and 36 from the Spectrum. So many classic showsSounds like a Dicks Pick to me...

Yep, you're Dick's worthy. Congrats. That is a weird, fun little show.

This run was all a warm-up for the Europe '72 tour.
I'm loving the stories...
Listening to it right now. It's been too long.
Oh, and the killer jam in Dancin in the Streets (which is waaaay better than the '77 disco version)

I was at this show…..I think
