Can you two please get a room? The mutual admiration and loving is turning my stomach.

bob, you have been grotesquely misunderstood and maligned. Now please stop digging up old threads.

walker, please try to take the high road.

The Northwestern Scout site is looking for exactly the type of perspective and insight you both provide. I think if you move your discussion there you'll find a lot of attention and support.

We're right behind you.

Seriously, I wander in here today and find myself reading a bunch of stuff that is 10 months old and totally irrelevant at this point. WTF?

Dear DaCat,

You give trolls power by responding to them, and especially by naming them. And you encourage them to post even more. Why do you do this? Why not put them on ignore?

Because putting them on ignore would not have relieved from coming to this board last night expecting new threads and seeing 10 threads that were a year old....

The ignore function isn't perfect, but it works well most of the time. You should try it.

Or would you rather be the guy who throws food all over his floor while wailing about having mice?

I'm sorry, jjjj, but I disagree with this theory.

As the jerkoff who spent far too much time in the same role of either of these guys, I've come to the opinion that I (and others) should have been better policed. I saw other boards do a FAR better job of shredding posters like me with ongoing, singular agendas and grudges. They were called out repeatedly and agendas were stopped long before they became a major discussion point. In the long run, the community was better for it.

Now someone may scream "censorship," whine about bullying or cry "who me" in ignorance. But this is usually a pretty loose and forgiving group. If you've beaten a topic to death and THIS group calls you out, you probably deserve what's coming.

I really don't have a dog in this fight, but I would like to offer one piece of advice: If you think there's going to be a grand celebration that you were correct or the first to predict something, you're wrong. I think it's accurate to say most of us really don't care. Pat yourself on the back and move along.

I speak from experience.

My preference is to be the guy who doesn'T have to wade through several year-old posts because someone wanted to troll someone else. It makes the board worse for all, imo. Nonsense such as this is why so many quality posters have left the Basketball board in the pasr, never to return. But feel free to continue to get up on your "ignore is you friend" soapboc. Perhaps it is YOU who should ignore the posters here...

Exactly. None of the threads people are talking about even appear in my feed. It's awesome!

But he has a point - if you don't want to wade through pages of old threads being resurrected by 1-2 posters, why not put those posters on ignore? It solves it quick and easy. It's like asking why you wouldn't take cough syrup that's sitting right in front of you when you have a hacking cough.

Because ignore only deletes the posts by Xbob, not the threads themselves. So I would still see the same 10 old threads....

I actually agree wit what you said. And I remember your “reflexively pissy" days.

But I've also learned that Lou and any other moderators on here have absolutely no intention of policing the board in the way you suggest. I've advocated for that in the past, and it did no good at all. If anything, Lou is an apologist for these guys. I remember him telling one of the trolls that his 5-3-2-6-4-4 type argument was “cogent.” That was the last straw for me. I left for a year and did not come back.

Then I returned and found that the ignore function was new and improved. Except for the “old threads” issue that Mike Webb is so upset about, it works very well. And it definitely beats pointless attempts to get the moderators to crack down on trolls.

CONFESSION TIME: I was actually just trolling a bit, wanted to try out that term "grotesquely misunderstood" which I read in a recent article, quoted from back when the English language was more cleverly deployed. Thought it was kind of catchy. It seemed to be appropriate sarcasm for our resident martyr.

One thing I'm not sure I made clear after reading your response, jjjjj. I didn't mean that Lou and the moderators should police the board. Well, they should, but t's obvious that's not his belief. And in some ways, I agree with it.

I meant we as the community/users should police the board better. As we've seen in the past, I have no problem calling out repeated stupidity and agendas, and it should probably be done more often since Lou has better things to do. That's why I applaud the original message in the thread.

Ya know 112, I posted something similar. But see, I feel the self appointed board cops like gcg, Corbi, mike to a lesser extent, and a whole bunch of folks need to stop attacking, bullying, the posters and discuss the content on merits.

The Turks, wrasslers, xxx and xyz’s all have an equal right to offer thoughts about NU sports and it is not the role for anyone to turn their thoughts into personal attacks. Gcg is after me again today, as example.

But absent some come to Jesus moment board wide, then I, for one, have no intent or interest to lead by example. I did that back in the drano days. Nope, my self appointed role, as we all choose to self appoint, is defender of targets of bullies and historian. In that latter role, I have embraced the archives, along with the suck and the weird definition of troll here, and hope to teach those that post with impunity that their words can bite and embarrass long after posted.

Fine, but do you have to dredge up old threads about injuries the week of the new season? I still have Coble PTSD.

Sorry about that, I really didn’t check the thread names. I just searched for useful terms to bury that little brat.

Ironically you resort to bullying to fight the perceived bully. That seems grotesquely misguided.

The "do as I say, not as I do" is very Christian of you. I'm sure you'll find a lot of support with that outlook.

Just so you know what the definition of trolling is:

https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Trolling

Pro tip: as stated in the definition, if your victims know you're just trolling, you're not doing it correctly.

And poetically beautiful.

For a guy who goes on exotic diving expeditions, flies his own plane, and has a 25 year old girlfriend, you seem a little insecure about your internet persona. ;)

What bizzaro world do you live in? Gcg and Corbi can be annoyingly self-righteous and sanctimonious, but at least they have content. Mike lives only to be a board gestapo. He even talks wistfully about his experiences as a Obersturmbannfuhrer on some other board that I would never want to visit.

My kid calls it bullying the bully. He only gets in fights with kids who bully other kids. I'm sometimes torn about whether to discourage him or not.

Ok, then I will also embrace my insecurity.

Btw, are you stalking me? I dont recall referencing Laura's age. But might have been drinking. Anywho, under 25, dove Epcot's Living Seas last friday and bringing another group to Cuba in Feb- Maria La Gorda this time. You are welcome to join.

Oh, and you forgot my book...

Not stalking, but think of it as a kind of an awkward appreciation, even in a mildly vicarious sort of way, though I find myself disagreeing heartily with some of your more off-the-wall and sometimes grotesquely inaccurate statements.
