should 16 year olds be given the vote?...keep in mind that potentially a 16 yr old who commits murder in most cases will be tried as a juvenile.....if the 16 yr old can't comprehend that murder is murder then do you want that person voting?

Give them that right, however, if they do not vote when they are 16 then they cannot register again until they are 21. Also, to make it fair, raise the draft age to 21 too.

We trust 16 year olds to drive a vehicle at highway speeds, so why wouldn't we trust them to vote? How many true "educated" voters are out there right now?

I can agree with most of that...maybe 18 would be a good compromise...if they can be drafted they should be able to vote on the government drafting them

If old enough to vote should be considered an adult & all aspects of adult hood should be laid upon you .
I know at 16 i was not competent enough to vote , would have voted like my dad told me to , & after having 2 16 year olds im very glad i dont have to live by there thought process...man have you ever watched 16 year olds ...& people really think they should vote ? But i see why Democrats want this , as people age we get wiser & most youth are Democrats ....guess Democrats have to get the very unwise to vote for socialism....i know at 16 , 18 & later i voted Democrat...

Lots of different things to think about:
  • Driving- In most states driving alone is not allowed until you turn 17. So you can vote but we don't trust you to drive.
  • Drinking- You have to be 21 to drink but you can die for your country at 18. Yea, I know, you can drink on a base when 18. But now you can vote at 16?
  • Draft- Women can now fight in combat, but still not required to sign up for selective service at 18?
  • Most kids are sophomores when they turn 16. How much did you trust your kids when they were sophomores? My kids were taking AP US History when they were Sophomores and then just starting to understand how the US grew as a country, which I feel is important to form their thoughts on gov as a whole.
  • By dropping the age, we will add additional +/- 8 million new voters. That is enough to swing the election. This is the only reason why this is even a thing.
  • Can you imagine the political advertising created to reach high school kids? Most likely it would be bunch of old people smoking pot and playing video games trying to swoon a high school kid. Could you imagine Uncle Joe being around that many young kids. He would lose his mind!
  • In rural communities, focusing on a high school could dominate the election cycle. The "cool" teacher could run for local office and get in just by being an easy grader.

I don't like it. I do think a lot of 16 year olds are tried as adults in violent crime cases.

Quite doubtful anyone who has ever raised 16 year old, would ever in their right mind believe they should have the right to vote. Hell, many 40 year olds were at one time registered Democrats.

18 and 16 are both arbitrary numbers and the level of personal growth and maturity that you gain during that time is insignificant. It wasnt that long ago that you were expected to be married and working a job by the time you were 16. Human brains arent fully developed until you are into your 20s, so I dont see any serious differences in it.

16 and 17 year olds would likely be among the lowest demos in turnout and would also likely vote similar to their parents, making it a wash overall.

Exposure? Trump got a LOT of free media in 2016 with outrageous things.....seems 2020 Dems will try to repeat that.
Yeah, I doubt that. What votes do you get by pandering to people who cant vitw?
