I'm all for making fun of people for their gender, race, sexual orientation, etc. as long as it's done respectfully. Though if I had children I would refrain from doing it myself and would encourage my kids to refrain from it as well. Kids don't always know what the line in the sand is and lord knows we don't need anymore bullying in this world even if their intent wasn't to be a bully.
I'll draw the line at making fun of stuff people tend to be self-conscious about like mental disabilities, physical disabilities, disease (both mental and biological, like depression and cancer), etc. Those are serious issues that make their lives suck, often as well the people that care for them, turning it into a joke is just heartless and disrespectful.
