Defense was Gassed

The 2 WR turnovers put the Defense in the unfortunate position of being on the field for most of the 2nd Half. That was the difference in the game, no matter how you slice it. This year's team has evolved into a ball control team. And when you don't control the ball, the game plan falls apart. I bet the Defense was on the field for 22 or 23 minutes in the 2nd Half. And they were completely spent at the end of the game.

The defense was coming on the field after a 7 minute drive with two timeouts thrown in. The last Kentucky drive was the longest by either team last night. The TOP in the 2nd half was nearly identical. Just played conservative not to lose football down the stretch .

Agree. Georgia figured out how to stop our run game in the 2nd half and we countered by using our run game. That conservatism obviously led to our D being on the field about 70% of the second half.

That's just not correct. Before the final 2 drives (1 for each team), the TOP in the 2nd Half was 13 to 8. And Georgia went 16 plays for 134 Yards on their final 2 drives...almost 5 minutes of possession. For the game, Georgia had a 8 minute possession difference, which is massive against a "ball control" team like Kentucky.

The Defense was gassed at the end of the game.

Actually I think we should have went to Benny sooner. On the drive where juice fumbled we had a second and six. That seven minute drive could have happened there. Then in the fourth quarter we break their will with more Benny and some boom sprinkled in. On Georgia's last drive we shoulda jammed the wr and dared them to beat us deep. Even if they do beat us deep it leaves time on the clock for us to come back and tie it in the end.

You can't take out the final two drives though. The offense didn't do a whole lot last night, but they did produce the longest drive of the night in the fourth quarter and that drive included two timeouts that added more time for the defense to get rest. Just gave up too many soft cushion plays in the 10-15 yard range through the air on that last series. That's about the third game where we have let teams drive down the field late in games.

Not only did we give those cushions but we let them get out of bounds and stop the clock. We need to make some changes in that aspect of game situations. But we don't know if the players are executing or not in those spots?

With all the clock stoppages for TO's, reviews, penalties, etc., I just don't buy this "gassed" theory, especially in this game.
