If your Allen what do you do? Stack the box with 8 players or more and for them to go over the top to beat you? Can the CBs hold up to that kind of pressure being singled up the whole game? For me that would be the way to play it and take their shot beating them. Also maybe mix in zone coverage if needed to keep everything in front of PSU. Even if Jeanty breaks free the players will see him versus man to man with CBs running with their backs to him breaking free.
Bonus points what should PSU offense do to attack the Boise St defense?

Beware of the screen pass to Jeanty if PSU Defense gets overly aggressive attacking the box. Wrap him up!! Don't just throw yourself at the ball carrier, hit and wrap and don't let go. Swarm to the football. Be disciplined in your gap responsibility and if you have outside contain, do not let any ball carrier get around you as you are the last line of defense and failure is not an option!! LTFI!!!!

  • Sealing the edge is as important as getting to the QB.
  • Get a good pass rush with 4 so we don't leave gaps in the secondary. The last things we need is Jeanty getting into the secondary and we have a LB or DB MIA in the backfield.
IMO Jeanty can get 160 yds or so but he has to earn them. We can't afford to give up long break away runs. PSU should win if we can slow the game and hold Boise to 24 pts or less.

Of course win the TO battle

I'd much rather Jeanty get a couple of long runs than to have them grind it out on time-consuming drives.

Thinking the more zone looks the better here. Gives more eyes on both Jeanty and the QB to limit longest runs, makes for harder downfield blocks, and can steal a pick or two if we can get them into passing downs.

If PSU defense demonstrated an ability to tackle, I would break out the tapes from the Sugar Bowl vs. Hershel Walker and the Fiesta Bowl vs. Marcus Allen.

Rinse and Repeat.

I anticipate Jeanty will get 125 with a couple touchdowns. Best case scenario is he gets that 125 on 25 carries.

Best way to stop him is to control the ball and score.

Last, but not least, your opponent is not chopped liver. They will bring everything they have to this game and then a little more. Match them in your intensity.

Respect all, fear none.

Spot on... So many DB especially today try to blow a player up and not wrap up. He is too good to try and blow up need to wrap and hang on for dear life

Again and again you have seen All-America runnings backs underperforming in bowl games. I think that’s not an accident.

Layer the Defense. 4 DL not including Carter. Let him move behind the DL. Force everything between the Tackles by making Edge Containment priority #1.

Kotelnicki needs to use screens to the RBs off of blitzes. The middle was wide open frequently and the RBs were kept in to block. Could have diced them up even more.
