A couple things I saw watching live that cut wildly against the grain. First Elam and Miggins were much better than most on this thread give them credit. Especially Elam who played nearly every snap. Both had 4 tackles a piece and were consistently on the USM side of the line.

The issues were OLB and the 3rd DL, usually Middleton. There was absolutely no edge set on the defense and it looked like the lion's share of the running plays were right at those spots. Also we had very little from our MLB. Safety support on the run was poor at best. Almost as shaky as their pass coverage was.

At least those were my impressions watching live. I have no intention of watching it over again to justify those observations. Truth be told nobody really had a good game. Even Jones with his 19 tackles. Most were several yards down field.

Defensive line may very well be the most difficult recruiting task, but instead of proving just how difficult it is, we have failed miserably. Very likely that we could swap with almost any OVC defensive line recruiting disappointment and see an improvement. Why? Because they would be fit enough to play. Elam is as athletic as a can of Crisco.
And that can of Crisco played 80 snaps.Unbelievable.
