Democrats try to recruit KSR's Matt Jones to challenge Andy Barr ???

If Matt decides to run, and the election were today, who would you vote for?

Agree, he's gonna get into politics sooner rather than later. But he won't go & lose in a pure swing district like Lexington, he'll step in whenever Hal Rogers decides to retire from the 5th.

He will win if he runs. I will be sad, because I like him on KSR, but don't kid yourself, he will win. Fayette county was one of only a very few counties in the State that voted for Obama in 2008 and 2012. Granted the district is more than just Fayette county- but Matt Jones probably has more name recognition in that district than Barr does right now. He will easily win if he decides to run.

Matt "gets" Billy Joe Wildcat better than anyone else in the commonwealth. There's a good reason site is so awful and successful at the same time.

I hope he runs. Marcus. He'd win.

Oh, and you've got to be a special kind of dumbass to think running a blog and call in radio show is somehow better than being an elected US rep. Speaking of having it made. Jesus.

we need to get all liberals out of government..not add more...hopefully he sticks to running KSR

the kentucky congress is run by 2 republican senators and 5 of the 6 congressmen are republicans. kentucky ranks pathetically low in education and economy. its probably the 1 democrats fault for sure.

add in that he is a graduate of Duke University in Durham NC! I'm sure if he ran that will be brought up about a billion times on radio/tv ads.

He went to Duke for law school. Given how elitist hiring is in the legal market, he'd have been crazy to turn that down for schools in a lower tier. It's more of a sad commentary on the legal hiring market than anything else, really.

Matt Jones making decisions for the Commonwealth....lol.

His candidacy would rival that of Judd and Grimes from a clueless standpoint.

Here's one hoping he chooses politics. I don't know much about what he stands for but anything that gets him off of the radio gets my vote.

you do know that democrats run the state...dont you? The federal offices you refer to have little to do with the stats you point out. And btw, I hate republicans too.

Lol, what an ignorant post. Education is a state issue, this state has been run by dems for 100 years. To blame congressional people for state issues is the same as blaming micky mouse.

I think Jones would have a shot, but in the end he is far too liberal for that district. Barr just won by 20 points.

Well, this certainly doesn't hurt ratings which are already through the roof, he may break into uncharted territory with this.

While I'm sure at some point he'll try this, I'd be hard pressed to imagine he walks away from the show now. Frankly I'd think he's not that far off from being able to syndicate the show into new territory...its about as entertaining as any sports-ish show outside of Rome.

And to the WISH HED ONLY TALK WILDCATS 26/7/358 DAYS A YERE crowd, lighten up a bit. It's a long year. I for one am in and out of my vehicle all day, it's a welcome break from all the other monotonous crap on there and I'm an evil conservative.

So the left believes Matt Jones is their ticket to beating Barr?

Donald Trump as President and Matt Jones as my congressman. Oh God, just shoot me now.

I'm not sure how he'd do, but to say he'd easily win is ridiculous. The people who listen to his show aren't the people who typically vote in elections. He has to convince the blue hairs to vote for him.

Not to hurt any feelings.....but some of y'all need to realize there actually is a large percentage of the population in Lexington, and the country as well, who DGAF about sports, nor follow sports, or know yahoos like Matt Jones who talk about sports even exist

hate to drag this into a #PoliticalThread line, but the democrats prospects for that seat and their "bench" of talent must be pretty touching awful if this is who they are forced to recruit. but it is a statewide problem for them, see the serous Ashley Judd talk against Mitch.

Those Live remotes from all over the state are a good way to press the flesh with potential voters.

Though not as much in a Congressional election. Maybe he should run for Agricultural Commissioner. [winking]

FCC mandates hed have to leave his show, or Barr would have to be given comparable air time (not happening).

Jones popularity is due to the terrific basketball inside info hes had over the years. He was a poster on a previous incarnation of this site (Kentucky Sports Report) years ago, then a moderator. Then after a dispute he left to start his own site, naming it KSR to steal web traffic from Kentucky Sports Report. At this time, Jones was doing a non regular web cast; and basically noone was listening. Then proceeded to report inside info on his site, that was broke on premium boards on Ky Sports Report. This got more listeners.

Then Jones develops his own source who fed him unmatched inside info (I was thinking Mike Pratt was discovered as the source? Im guessing the info is in return for a silent partnership with Jones) and his web traffic and pod cast really took off; and gradually built into what it is today. Also major contributing factors were the fortunate explosion of twitter (where Jones often acts as if hes the one whos breaking news; when he isnt), pod casts, internet radio, and "embrace debate" culture. All of which greatly contributed to his growth.

People dont listen to Jones because hes smart, funny, or because they believe in his political views. People listen to KSR, because they know it has unmatched inside info on basketball; and Drew Franklin's humor.

That said, from a capitalistic point of view I admire what Jones has done; taking a show noone cared about and turning it into THE center of UK sports programming. Jones would be a complete fool to leave KSR to enter a highly contested election. Period.

Glad I no longer live in that district.

If Jones runs against Barr, a douche bag lawyer will win that seat.

I think moving into politics could have a negative impact on Jones' perception by UK fans. Seems comparable to a staunchly conservative sports talk radio host seeking office in California or New York. Makes no sense.

A political run by Jones will alienate likely more than 65 percent of UK's voting fanbase if recent election trends hold true in Kentucky.

I think he would do a good job.

It is gross that he's getting recruited though. Is there a rivals for political candidates or something? Is MJ really in the Rivals 100? Did his visit to DC follow all political party courtship rules? I sure hope Stenny is tweeting instead of calling, phone calls are only allowed during certain periods. Also if MJ attended a BBQ, will he even be eligible to run as a democrat?

I was kinda hoping the GOP would put up someone to take on Barr.

Garland is a sellout douchebag, politically speaking.

Like the show and think he does well in the venue that he is in. Absolutely would not vote for him for anything under any circumstance.

I'm sure there are others that feel this way as well.

How sad is that? People really get alienated because a fellow sports fan and/or media member has a different political view? Weak.

Well, I hope he chooses not to run. First he is a liberal democrat and we've had more than enough of them. Secondly, and most importantly, his main job now is to torment the filthy ul cards and he does that better than anyone else!

Don't run Matt!

Dude tries to act so unbiased... unless you have different views than him then you're the dolt. The hypocrisy is real. TS.

As for Matt. Completely agree that he was sent to us to annoy the piss out of Jurich and the Linebeards. Really saddens me if we were to lose that voice. He'd just be tasked with finding the replacement.

I am not unbiased. However, I don't get disliking someone because they have different political views.

Actually, you can find this picture on my Facebook timeline from December 2011. Thought it was pretty cool.

learn Michael Jordan. want to sell shoes (or radio minutes) to the masses? keep your political views to yourself.

the instant Jones says what he thinks about abortion, taxes, spending, Israel, whatever he will piss off 50% (give or take) of the people.

Wow, how courageous of you to post a picture of a republican. You're so diverse.

I'm sure as hell not alienated by a person just because they are Republican- which is what I initially commented on.

I'm not saying it's NOT true. I'm saying it's really sad.
