If Matt decides to run, and the election were today, who would you vote for?

So the left believes Matt Jones is their ticket to beating Barr?

Agree, he's gonna get into politics sooner rather than later. But he won't go & lose in a pure swing district like Lexington, he'll step in whenever Hal Rogers decides to retire from the 5th.

I like Matt and will listen to his show later hoping that nothing political is mentioned. When he discusses politics it is no different than reading RR and some dumbass decides to talk about Obama, or come out as transgendered.

Matt, your popularity is not due to your likeability, insight, knowledge, or esoteric wisdom. It is due to your primary subject matter.

I would bet good money that at least half of the people who listen to your show don't particularly care for you. I would also bet a good percentage of those people consist of ul fans that actually detest your existence. Ratings numbers don't tell the whole story.

When he did the remote for KYs healthcare signups he didn't even know the law had penalties. Could he physically not talk during a debate while the other guy talked? Trumpish.

Selfishly I hope he keeps doing KSR but obviously he's got bigger plans and I'm cool with that. Can't blame him. You all are letting your blind partisan beliefs interrupt reality. Barr's district would be a tough one but Matt's a smart dude, if he wants to make that leap he'll be successful.

Probably be a tough call, being a congressman, while I can see that being a goal for some sounds miserable to me. Meanwhile, having the access to UK sports that he does would be a dream. Wouldn't even be like work. I can't see how both could coexist.

Well said, I can tolerate him if he sticks to uk sports, otherwise his show is worthless

That's 100% false. Otherwise the dozens of other UK sports websites would be just as popular.

So, you think his show would get the same ratings regardless of the subject? If Matt was doing his show the same way, with the same people, on the same stations, but he was a Louisville fan, you think it would be just as popular?

No. But you said he's only popular because he covers UK which is completely false. He's popular because he covers UK better than anyone else and that's because of his personality and insight.

How many UK radio shows does he compete against? I get that you're a liberal and will fight tooth and nail to save a particular tree in the forest, but you are wrong. Matt Jones could not have created, launched, and sustained a radio show about ANY other topic than UK sports.

He was smart to gear his website and radio show to the younger crowd, but I hear all the old dudes at the golf course that listen to every show, and ***** about Jones. They want the info and are willing to tolerate him to hear it.

I doubt they are an anomaly.

Sounds to me like he's going to run or at least leaning that way.

I have no idea what ymmot is talking about. Dude, is crushing it with KSR, how could you argue otherwise? There are dozens of other sports shows in the 30+ markets he's in as well as internet blogs, forums, message boards.

[laughing] You couldn't be further for the truth. I wouldn't vote for Jones if he ran, you're just completely missing my point.

Hell, if all it takes is starting up a blog and a radio show about UK sports to be as successful as Matt Jones I might as well start on tomorrow.

Yeah I agree after listening to the first 30 min this morn he is far more open about doing it than I initially thought he would be when this story broke

I'm talking about his ratings. Those are the reason he has been singled out. The ratings do not mean he would be successful In the political arena. I never once said his show wasn't popular.

I agree with you. Listening to the show he sounds like he's made up his mind to run but just doesn't want to announce it yet.

Seems like all the MJ doubters have been proven wrong over and over and over again. He's got one of the most popular blogs and podcasts in the nation. That's not solely due to the topic. I hope he doesn't run because he'd have to leave the show and I don't think anyone could adequately replace him.

I think it's a bad move for a number of reasons.

1. Matt Jones has it MADE. Paid to write about/talk about/watch UK sports. They've always sold this as "in the most ridiculous manner possible." If he starts a campaign, he can't really be "ridiculous." KSR was his baby so to speak. Who takes over? Are you willing to let that go? How are viewers going to be affected by this? It's one thing to be known as a Liberal. But, is John Short going to listen to the show of that Liberal congressman?!

2. Matt is currently in a situation where he can criticize any and everyone for any and everything. He clearly enjoys it. Is it really worth swapping shoes?

Ultimately, if you truly WANT it, I think you have to run. But, If I had something with the success of KSR, I'd stick with it.

You are probably right. A true voice for BBN would not have any relevance in the US Congress. Mr. Jones' exposure in the BBN is not a qualification for public office. As long as I can remember, attorneys have used gimmicks to get themselves elected to Congress, with all its lifetime benefits. Maybe we know now know why Mr. Jones has tried so hard to get himself out in front of the public under the very popular banner of University of Kentucky sports. People need to think this through carefully and have a higher bar before casting a vote like this.

I agree with ya. I would gladly trade jobs with Matt any day of the week. The guy has a UK fanboys dream job

If nothing else Matt seems intelligent, caring and genuine. We need more people like that in Washington but having said that I want Jones at KSR.
