What are you expecting from Denico THIS season? What would you consider a great year, average year, or disappointment for him? How much of a difference can he make if he plays up to his potential? His videos look great obviously, but can some of you that have seen him play some, or have dare I say "inside" info about what coaches are expecting of him, elaborate on what you think.

I am not sure there is exactly a fair way to judge defensive ends in terms of numbers. For me, if our defensive 3rd down completion percentage goes down, our INTs go up, and he simply makes some memorable "big plays" such as sacks, hurries, or pass knock downs, then I think we can say that he was the presence we expected. Just not sure you can base it on the number of sacks or hurries he gets. For all we know, he may be double teamed and that opens up our linebackers, tackles, and other defensive ends to make plays. If that happens then he would have to be considered a success although his numbers may not indicate that.<div>
</div><div>Same thing goes with Jonathan Banks. It's the Carlos Rogers effect. When you have a shut down corner in the college football, a guy that should be in the NFL, people don't throw to that side of the field. So I would personally expect Banks to not have a great number of interceptions this year and pass breakups. However, due to his "presence" our overall defense should benefit. </div>

But I think it will take him 5-6 games to really get in gear with SEC football. It took Pernell a while to get in the swing. I think he has a good year this year w/ a chance at a big one next year. If you really want to look ahead, IF we sign Z Smith, our pass rush could be downright nastythe second half of next year

also didn't have NEARLY the surrounding talent on the DL that Autry does, especially in the 2009 season that you cite. They could get away with double teaming him alot more in 2009 than they'll be able to do on Autry in 12.

IF opposing offenses have to focus a double team on Autry, we are going beat them more times than not everywhere else. We're more balanced right now than we've been on D in a very long time.

What do I expect from Autry? I expect him to get pressure in passing situations. I don't expect to see Tyler Wilson having all the time in the world to tear us apart again. Same rule applies to Bray. These are the 2 MAJOR games where Autry could almost singlehandedly decide if we win or lose...
