Essential Quality looks very hard to beat. Does the Sheik finally have a Derby winner?

Personally I am going to try to beat him, putting longshots in exacta and tris. Was not overly impressed with his run in the Bluegrass.

Any thoughts on the other stakes races on Saturday or the Oaks would be welcome

There are at least 6 other horses with speed figures and 1 1/8 mile times not far behind Essential Quality. A couple almost equal. This year could be a great day for hitting the tri or super.

Live Longshots I Like in the exotics:

Southbound 50-1
O Besos 20-1
Midnight Bourbon 20-1
Helium 50-1
Rock Your World 5-1 (not a LS, but has a great chance)
Highly Motivated 10-1
Super Shock 20-1

Essential Quality is the one to beat, has a perfect post . . . . but I don't like the 2-1 price

Really disappointed in the field of horse names this year... Highly Motivated, Essential Quality, Known Agenda, Rock Your World.. how f'n lame.

Whatever happened to the great names of yore like Stinkfinger, Papa's Delicate Condition, Mr. Fasthorse, and If Mandy Patinkin Was A Horse?

the best 3 year old horse is not running - Life is Good! This horse had amazing speed and cruised at a level that most horses can not keep up with. He will be back at some point but this is one year I know the best horse is not running.

You're exactly right about this dude, he is probably the best horse in the 3 year old crop.

That Jimson weed he feeds his horses sure seems to make the relatively unheralded horses in his barn run a lot faster, 2nd straight derby he won wire to wire, almost like they some extra something in their feed.
Like you said it's almost always an unheralded horse. It's like it got some magic juice or something. Takes it from a middling horse to the top.

Baffert is the Larry Brown of horse racing but with Tom Brady's trophy case. Congrats, horse industry. Everyone knows he's dirty but he's still able to fall *** backwards into the winner's circle and pop up with a smile on his face and a "I know nothing" attitude about his stable.

Liked Baffert with the American Pharoah and Justify stories but this...yeah, there’s just no way to explain this away. Not only does it taint him, it taints the sport. This will now be three years of just craziness for the Derby- controversial win, delayed to empty stands in Sept, and then a drugged horse wins.

Quite a three year-run after a great story in Justify.
