Pretty solid. Not gonna get a whole lotta argument from me. If I had to pick a team though I’d go big with

PG-Nolan

SG-RJ

SF- Zion

PF- Bags

C- Jah

God that team would be dummy good. Doubt we would ever miss a rebound, and the reason I think having the 3 bigs together would work is because Zion and Bags could get 20 points each on put backs alone and everyone except Jah is a threat to bomb 3’s, so I don’t think it’d get to clogged down there.

These are 5 of the 6 National 1st team All-Americans if I’m not mistaken.
Jabari gets left out due to that teams performance and his defense.

Tatum and Winslow I wanted to add but our forwards are absolutely loaded.

I think I agree with the Chronicle’s five choices, but man....it leaves a lot of worthy candidates off the list.

Jah, Nolan and Zion are almost too obvious, IMO. We know some of the issues surrounding Grayson, but he was the face of the program for a number of years....and he did back it up with pretty good numbers. If Marvin played decent defense he would be a no-brainer, but he still makes my team....barely.

Honorable mentions (starting from 2010 through the decade):

Jon Scheyer
Kyle Singler
Austin Rivers
Mason Plumlee
Jabari Parker
Tyus Jones (he’s my high honorable mention and the guy I almost picked over Bagley)
R.J. Barrett

Yeah, no WAY does Grayson make it over Jon. No way.

Grayson was my sentimental pick because he’s the only All-American this decade who played four years. Guys like Nolan, Jon and Kyle crossed over decades. So it was basically criteria for me, which in fairness, can be interpreted however one wishes. Jon only played one year, while Kyle played two and wasn’t outstanding as a senior. Nolan edges out both for me simply based on his two years in that timeframe.

Now, I’d add that if we’re picking the best players of say, this century thus far, then all three of those guys climb Grayson.

So they really not going to put RJ on the team? Cmon man. He was a consensus all American and actually stole a NPOY award from Zion in one publication. RJ is definitely a top 5 player this decade.

Some will probably question some of my picks but there’s a reason that I picked them.

PG-Tre Jones
SG-Tyus Jones
SF-RJ Barrett
PF-Zion Williamson
C-Marvin Bagley III

I picked Tyus and Tre because even though they’re both PGs I think it would be fun to see them on the court together. I put Tre at PG because although he’s improved his shooing, he’s still not as good of a shooter as Tyus which is why I put Tyus at SG. They’d also probably average 15-20 assists per game or more.

I picked RJ and Zion because they’re both so good and even though a lot of people thought that there was jealousy between them, it was clear that there was no jealousy and they fed off of each other on the court.

I picked MB3 because he’d dominate inside scoring and between him Zion and RJ they’d get so many offensive and defensive rebounds that it would be ridiculous and they’d probably also get a ridiculous amount of blocks.

Those 5 together would probably average 10-15 steals per game or more because they all could steal the ball.

The only thing that my 5 picks probably wouldn’t really be all that good at would be shooting 3’s but they could score in so many other ways that it would make up for them not being good at shooting 3’s.

This is tough. Couldn’t sleep all night trying to come up with a five that I could feel comfortable with. It never happened. But here’s where we are the two below teams that will play against each other for the right to represent my top five of the decade. Best of seven series-

PG- Tyus
SG- Seth
SF- Jabari
PF- Zion
C- Jah

PG- Tre
SG- Nolan
SF- Kyle
PF- MB3
C- Mase

I left off Jon bc he really was part of the previous decade in my mind. Also helped me squeeze in another guy. I gave Kyle the ever so close edge over Justise. And even writing this I’m flip flopping so I’m going to stick with it and move on with my life.

Apologies to Grayson, Quinn (senior year) Cook, RJ Barrett, Josh Hairston, Javin and Mike Buckmire.

I get it, but personally I would have a very hard time putting Grayson Allen on there over Kyle Singler. Otherwise I think they nailed it. KS doesn't seem to get quite the love he should, and I think it has to do with slightly under-performing relative to expectation his senior year. He is an all-time great Blue Devil in my opinion.

Jealousy between Zion and RJ? Who said that foolishness?

I gotta have Singler but probably could say that about everyone that's been mentioned. It's like naming the best 5 Duke players ever.. You could name 15 and be justified. OFC

That obviously isn’t the best team of the decade but my god that would be a fun lineup to watch.. I would love to see all of them play together.
