He along with Bledsoe are the biggest surprises of the Cal era for me. I thought Devin would be an unathletic, spot up shooter. Basically a bit quicker but shorter version of Wiltjer. I thought missing on JBjr and getting Booker was a bad deal. I was totally wrong on all.
Devin is much more athletic than I ever imagined. Hell he's more athletic than Aaron or Andrew. As nice as that shot was, the stepback from the wing against Missouri was even prettier. It was the nicest shot so far this year. Wish there was a gif of it.
I think Devin will be back. As great as he is, he still doesn't have great NBA athleticism and mostly only scores. He's a good but not great defender. He hasn't rebounded much or gotten many assists, although with the players he has around him that isn't his role.
I think NBA teams will want to see how he does with a biggest load on his shoulders next year. Although that load might not be any different than it already is if Newman comes along with other possibilities and we have returnees.
Bottom line I expect him back. He didn't plan on being OAD, enjoys school, will want to continue playing with his BFF Tyler, has a dad would went through major college ball and such, and also just a few weeks back his dad even said there's no way Devin would leave after one year. Admittedly that was right before he went on this tear but I still think it rings true.
