Softens the blow of this loss some. Our team is going be better next year. We are going to have some size in the front court and our back-court should be better with Beetle. Losing Holton and Paige hurts, but I see the team improving from this year.

I do think it's time for some younger assistants. In particular, someone like a Mazzulla or Daris Nichols. I'm not saying we should fire the other assistants, but it's time to start looking ahead at the future. Huggs won't be here forever. Plus, having younger guys going out recruiting definitely helps land some top talent.

An assistance that can actually make an offensive game plan for when WVU is in the half-court? Just a suggestion

I agree. I'm not a big fan of Martin.

Need him to be more consistent when big games are on the line. He has been a liability at times, but did almost as much damage with mistakes (missing open looks and turnovers) than he did helping with his point and rebound contribution. I don't think WVU will be a better team if he is the focus of our club next year.

If you think about it, when he had Staten he was much more under control. This year we didn't have a true PG. Hopefully next year we will with Bolden. If all we lose is Paige and Holton, and everyone returns and don't transfer, with the guys coming in next year, I don't see why we shouldn't be excited......

Hope it's true for the team's sake.

Dev was asked what is next: Mixed emotions right now, so I don't want to say anything I'm not sure about. I just want to get with my family. I have a family member out there supporting me. The most important part is getting my grades. I don't know man. Just a lot of feelings right now so I wouldn't want to say anything outlandish.

Not trying to stir drama or predict the unknown future, but he didn't say a word about coming back, using this loss for a run next season and so on. Sounds conflicted to me and like a coached/rehearsed response. Would not look up much while saying this. That's understandable after what just happened. Like I said all along, I hope he comes back and am thankful for his many contributions.

Edit. For a positive note according to Mike Casazza, for now anyway: Bad moods and reviews in the WVU locker room, but Devin Williams said he'll return for his senior season.

this does not come as a shock to me.....it appears that some on here who said they were citing inside information by saying it was a cinch williams was leaving apparently either misinterpreted things.....were misled.....or -- the most likely scenario -- acted like they knew more than they did and falsely intimated they had inside information......

yeah, but.....keaton said it was a fait accompli.....a done deal.....point is, if williams is even wavering, it's contrary to what our boy keaton said.....he said, rather arrogantly, several weeks ago that he knew for quite a while williams already had decided to leave.....i doubt williams leaves.....he can go to europe or asia next year.....if he does, well, sincerely doubt special k had the inside dope.....anyway, i say williams is at least 70-30, 80-20 to stay.....that is what i'm told by the litany of high-ranking sources i have enlisted among the inner sanctum of the wvu athletic department..... ;) .....wink, wink......

This is my most hated thing about this forum. The name calling and know it all attitudes are bad enough, but when I see these bold statements without any evidence it drives me crazy. As disappointed I am in getting bounced first round, I would be MORE disappointed if Williams moves on from the program. Huggins is one good off season from having a GREAT team. If Williams returns, with Bolden running point, Adrian's maturity, Phillips and Miles ability to score, Ahmad making an improvement, Carter and Myers adding depth, new length in Bender and Konate, and Williams inside presence.....I like Huggins will have his team for the first time in a long time!

Being in Ohio, I get on here hoping to find inside information on important things like coaching moves or players leaving he program. I see this post and get happy, then I realize it's not backed by anything! There is some mention of an article in a WV paper, but no real information!

Please someone post something concrete!!!!!

agreed, Boom. SFA ordeal sucks, but losing Devin for all forthcoming games would suck a lot more.

all there is to go off on as of now is what Devin said that's posted above. I haven't yet seen video or heard the interview part where Cassazza says Dev said he will return. maybe it was said after the cameras went off. impossible to tell from where I'm sitting.

another edit. Greg has some nice reporting on it:

With his junior season complete, Williams faces one question: will he returning to West Virginia for his senior season?

“Yeah,” Williams said, following West Virginia's early exit of the tournament.

“I need to continue to expand my game. I have a lot more that I haven’t tapped and I just need to continue to become a better team leader.”

Williams didn’t want to discuss the specifics of his decisions, but could have contemplated options of either an attempt to reach the NBA or to play professionally overseas.

“The most important part is worrying about my guys,” Williams said.

“I can’t think about leaving. My head is messed up, with taking a loss like this. I need to rally up with my guys.”

Oh really! Who is going to score for us, Carter, Meyers, Phillips? Are you kidding?

Were you saying that Paige would be scoring for us at this time last year? Miles can do more, Phillips will be more effective, Myers shows some promise, Bolden could be the man, never know.

Plus, do you know that the new class doesn't have any shooters?

Expect Carter, Miles Jr, etc to improve next year with Beetle running point. Carter was never a true PG who was forced to handle the ball more this year due to Beetle being hurt and Juwan State, Gary Browne, etc graduating. Same thing with Miles Jr. I also thought Phillips improved a lot this year. Unfortunately, he had a bad post-season. But I expect him to continue improving his game in off-season.

A certain player should NEVER be allowed to put the ball on the floor...

..the first person to guess who gets the Huggs No Sh*@ award of the year.

That's more difficult than you make it seem. I'm fairly sure that you are referring to Williams, but I'd say Macon is more likely to turn the ball over when he puts the ball on the floor.

Really, where would Williams go? He's not an NBA player. He a couple of inches too short for his position, has no vertical, and doesn't play half-court defense well enough to be an NBA guy at this point. Why quit college to hang around the D-league for a year like Staten? Heck, a year would be longer than Staten. We always over-rate the talent on WVU teams.

The ball should never be put on the floor...............even by the guards. Shoot the dadgum ball. You can't score points by dribbling or passing. Dunk it. Ozark it. Just don't heave it off the glass.

Our team is going be better next year. [...] I see the team improving from this year.
I really wish I could believe that, bEER, but it's pretty hard to see us ever doing better than 2d in the conference standings and 2d in the Big 12 tournament as long as Kansas is here.

Now if you're saying those things may not be improved, but the NCAA result should be better then I won't argue that. How could it not be? Showing up for the game at all in 2017 would be a colossal improvement, sad as it is to say.

Personally I would need to see an Elite Eight appearance or thereabouts next season to even begin to alleviate the SFA debacle.
