I don't think any of the 3 people discussed in this thread-Diaco,Langsdorf or Frost will be our next head coach. Diaco failed in his first foray into head coaching-if he gets a second chance, it's going to be at a lower profile school, not a place like Nebraska. Langsdorf's offense I think would have to put together some pretty great seasons for him to really be a serious candidate. Many, if not most people seem to think Frost is destined to be our head coach at some point. Which is probably why it won't happen.
I see Frost's situation with us as sort of like Steve Alford and Indiana basketball. People thought for years that he would return to his alma mater as head coach someday. But the timing was never right on one end or the other, and since it didn't happen this time, it's not likely to ever happen. I could see the same thing happening with Frost-the timing may not be right either on his end or our end when we are hiring our next head coach. Plus, I've never got the idea that Frost really has a burning desire to come home. In fact, I think his decision to leave Stanford and come to Nebraska had more to do with wanting to play for Tom Osborne than any sentimental attachment to his home state. I fear that people who just assume he will be our next coach are setting themselves up for disappointment.
For that matter, we don't even know whether Frost will be good enough for us to even want as a head coach. He did a good job last season taking a team from being winless to a bowl game. But it's not like getting a team to a bowl game was something unusual for UCF. George O'Leary won at least 10 games 4 times in the past 10 years there. If Frost can get to that kind of success, then he'll be a hot commodity.. He's off to a good start, but as of now he is still unproven.
