Or maybe they have means because they didn’t blow it on these luxury purchases.

A once is a lifetime wedding ring or a wedding ring upgrade after being married for 20 years or whatever is not “luxury purchases”. I mean Jesus what are some of you talking about? It’s not like he’s spending 200k FFS. Someone renovating their back deck costs more nowadays. I mean good lord what’s wrong with some of you people, just constantly starting an argument out of nothing. Congrats to the OP celebrating many years of love for his wife by splurging and spending what amounts to 1/20th the average cost of a new car nowadays or 5 months worth of groceries for a family.

He can do as he pleases, just as I can think spending money on jewelry is stupid. Happy for him and her, I just don’t get the appeal of a ring. Property is way cooler to me, also holds it’s value.

You said “or maybe people have those means because they don’t blow them on these luxury purchases”. It’s a once in a lifetime wedding ring or once every 20 years wedding upgrade. I consider optional things luxury purchases. A wedding ring is a forced gift you have to buy - whatever your budget. I don’t consider a house or car a luxury purchase either. You have to buy them (for most people) so either you can afford good ones, ****** ones, or ones in between. The guy isn’t even spending anything crazy on it. The whole discussion is ridiculous.

I live in the United States of America. In this country, it is custom as well as societal norm that a man propose with an “engagement ring” as well as a “wedding ring” at the actual wedding ceremony. Not doing so brings disapproval from society, disappointment for the female, and general shame and embarrassment to the male for not being able to provide for the female.

I must’ve missed that part of the citizenship test.
