We lost a great one. Dick "Oh my!" Enberg, one of the best sports broadcasters of my generation, died of an apparent heart attack. He was 82 :(

I wholeheartedly agree! I loved the 3:00 p.m. AFC West games back in the day with Enberg doing most of those games. When the Illini made that impossible run to beat Arizona in the Elite 8 at Allstate Areana, Enberg was behind the mic, too. One of the best.

I heard about it earlier. He also did the play by play for the Bears Patriots SB XX. He was alongside Merlin Olson.

The whole NBC lineup was underrated, Criqui/Trumpy covering the AFC Central, Jones/Cefalo on Broncos or Chargers and pre-undies scandal Marv Albert covering the AFC East.

While I liked Enberg and Olson, Summeral and Madden were the gold standard. Personally I liked the announcers at CBS and Fox more than the NBC announcers in general.

You had guys at CBS like Verne Lundquist, Dick Stockton, Tim Ryan and on Fox there was Kevin Harlan, Joe Buck, Thom Brennaman and Kenny Albert. Some analysts were Hank Stram, Dan Fouts, (who is doing AFC games now) Joe Theismann and Dan Dierdorf originally started there.

But it is all a matter of taste. They all know football.

Yes, Criqui/Trumpy would do those noon Steeler-Browns-Bengal-Oiler games. I know Jones did the AFC East as well. I loved NBC at that time.

I sat ten rows behind Enberg when he did those many, many DePaul games at the Horizon. First class guy in every respect. Unlike Billy Packer, he was always positive and supportive of both teams.

More for old timers here, but I think back to those New Years days of Enberg doing the Rose bowl, usuall y SC vs. some Big Ten team, followed by Don Criqui doing the Orange Bowl, OU or Neb vs. whoever. No BCS, No playoff format. At the end of the day College FB was over. Move on to NFL playoffs. Heaven.
