Did any Trumpets actually think NATO was obsolete?

Trump ran down NATO pretty hard during the campaign. I thought it was just some more crazy talk from the big crazy, and that weakening NATO on any level would be extremely dangerous.

Now I see Trump reversed his position (not like him is it?). I'm wondering how many supporters were charged up by his NATO = bs rhetoric during the campaign?

I don't know about obsolete, but it's generally pretty feckless. More nations are stepping up in response to US posturing under Trump, but it's just words at this point. Words have been NATO's forte for decades.

I think NATO is needed, however, I think the countries within NATO need to abide by their commitments.

The only thing I give a rip about is that all NATO members pay up or GTFO. I'm perfectly happy with letting any deadbeat nations fend for themselves.

Trumps NATO comments were in alignment with his book the art of the deal. I do not believe he thought NATO was keeping up with its commitments and said what he said to put them on notice.

All the liberals saw from your post was...wah wah wah wah wah wah wah. The teacher from Charlie Brown makes more sense to them than what you said.

What chapter is the 180 flip flop in? China was a currency manipulator but now they are not. When he's face to face with these people he folds. He just makes this stuff up day to day. I'm sure that his base is impressed. No one can believe a word he says, well done.

180 flip flop, isn't that what Monica was doing under the Resolute Desk while Hillary was down the hall?

I wasn't arguing. I was asking for opinions, out of curiosity.
The premise of your question was a strawman. Trump was never trying to weaken NATO. He was using our leverage as the true backbone of NATO to get everyone else on board paying their due.

The potential President of the strongest nation in the org saying it is obsolete doesn't weaken the org? Literally saying we wouldn't provide military aid to nations not paying their share doesn't weaken the org?

This is politics on the global scale....words matter. It's not massive business deals he's negotiating here, it's people's lives and security. No one has changed their financial status within the org, but he changed his tune didn't he? What's the reason, in your expert opinion then?

They, We, NATO is relevant again! Trump just said so! And China is no longer a currency manipulator! And he likes Janet Yellen now and won't replace her! lol, he is truly a man of conviction! China told him solving the NK Nuclear problem won't be easy either! He makes America look as shallow as he is.

Sorry if I dont address your sad strawman. I burn strawmen. Ask me a question not built on fallacy and just maybe I will grace you with a response. That is how nasty people operate.

Folds? LMAO. China made trade concessions. China is now refusing to buy North Korean coal. China is amassing troops on the North Korean border. Trump is making progress with China that Obama could only have dreamed about.

The head of NATO just came out thanking Trump for his leadership. He said that NATO did need to change. They do need to live up to their financial obligations and they need to restructure to become more relevant in a changing world.
