He was at the game but threw in the towel early, left the field and headed to the nearest buffet. No one else played today either.

Matt Elam is the only bright spot on the team. How many other schools have a 6"7 380 pound guy who is completely worthless and should be playing offense but is too stubborn?

my 150lb 12 year old could push him off the line. He has no backbone. He's just a bucket of marshmallows.

As soon as contact begins, he's looking for the best way to manage how to fall down. Regularly gets spun around and shoved into the backside of an opposing player. Generally this unfortunate person merely serves as Matt's safety cushion.

Good guy, powerful player, just in wrong position. Needs to be an offensive guard, if he wants to play at the next level.

His play exposes Freddy Maggard as just another talking head looking for attention. He went out of his way to make a big deal about how his film study revealed he played better than people thought last week. No he didn't.

I said when we signed him he needed to play on the o-line. It wasn't well received.

No, indeed. And isn't is rather basic at this point? He demands your attention for his mammoth size, and when the ball goes snap he stands out as the most dysfunctional thing you've ever seen in football pads.

People saying Elam needs to move to OL and play guard to have an NFL future are the jokes of this board. Nobody plays that position in the league without the ability to hustle, pull off the line and lead block on the other side of the field before an NFL running back gets there.

He just isn't a football player, i don't give a damn how big he is. he could be 10 ft tall and 500 pounds, it wouldn;t make him a football player. No strength, bad feet, no explosion. horrible technique.

Makes ya wonder what Saban saw in him… Maybe Saban would have developed him who knows
Saban would have told him to lose 70 pounds or get packing. And he would have redshirted his freshman year and worked out. probably wouldn't have seen the feild until his Jr year, if then

Why all the hate for Elam? Spread it around. You've got another thirty or forty guys that deserve it as much or more.

Elam plays NG standing straight up. It's really hard to do much of anything when you are beaten and have the C under your pads as soon as the ball is snapped.

Through two games, he has one solo tackle and 3 assists, per UK stats. He has strength but exhibits dual tendencies to penetrate and stand up. He is easily screened off from the runner and his forward momentum is used against him. I have not seen him show an effective spin move. That this has not been corrected for two years is difficult to understand.

Rewatching the game, and I see that Elam was in on the first couple of series and played just a bit in the 2nd half. I do not see him being hurt. I think it has to do more with going with a 4-3 today instead of a 3-4. We tried to get quicker DTs into the game.

On the long Florida TD by Del Rio to Callaway, you can actually see Elam bull rush the UF center and push him back a good 3-4 yards. He put his hand up when he was getting close to Del Rio, but unfortunately the ball had already been launched.

I also noticed on UF's first play from scrimmage, Elam managed to shed a block and be in on the tackle.

But that is pretty much all I saw Elam do today. Simply not enough to justify playing him if the point was to go with a quicker 4-3 alignment.
