Did Elam, Miggins and Bell really play 90 snaps?

That's the starting DL and while they may not have played all 90 snaps USM had it was damn close to it. I did see Middleton a few times, Hyde play some goal line stuff but it was pretty much those three. Point is, where was Kengera Daniel, Dubose, Pringle, Taylor, Carter? Are they RSing Looney/Cross? Are those guys so far behind that they get ZERO snaps in a debacle like last night's? Isn't a 100% Pringle better than say a 50% fatigued Elam? Would it've mattered? Probably not but you can't build depth by not playing.

Know what you mean, they spent so much time on the ground it was hard to see their numbers. Poor Alvonte Bell...we saw last night why UK was his only offer coming out of JUCO. Totally dominated from start to finish.

Like I said, saw Hyde on some goal line stuff but don't recall seeing him otherwise. Could've missed him of course. Pringle is the one I'm stumped about. As I asked above, is a 50% effective Elam better than a 100% Pringle? If so, UK's in one helluva piss-poor shape.

Pringle was a 2-star recruit. A 2-star recruit out of JUCO raises a lot of red flags.

This is Hyde's 4th year in the program and he is no more than a situational player. He simply lacks the talent to play full time.

How can we be so bereft of talent on the DL year after year? Can't we get 240 lb LBers and put 25 lbs on them and play small, quick and aggressive? Missouri seems to do okay playing like that. What talent we do land seemingly never improves. Very skeptical of the ability of much of this staff to develop talent and, more importantly, win with less than 5* talent at every position like Stoops enjoyed at FSU.

In order to do that we need to recruit the best LBs in the country so that they don't lose a step when they put on weight.

The University of Miami was the best at doing this in the 80s then again in the late 90s/early 00s:

Underperforming WRs became CBs

CBs became safeties

Safeties bulked up to LB

Talented LBs with a frame became DEs; notice Miami NEVER played 3-4 defense

DEs bulked up to DT.

DTs that were a step slow became OL


Never seen a program do this so effectively. But in order to do this you need access to the best talent in the country and Miami certainly had/has that.

Agree. Part of being a coach and maximizing players' talent is putting them in the best position to win....literally. If they're not cut out for one position, move them to another one.

Patterson at TCU has done it for years. It being growing DL from high school LBers, linebackers from HS safeties, etc. after 4 years our OL and DL remain an embarrassment. When is that gonna change?
