Did I hear correctly that soon to be freshman QB JJ McCarthy got an offer from Iowa State? He hasn't even started high school yet. That's insane.

That is surprising...I take it he will be 4 year starter for Road Runners. Hope his family, Coaches, and teamates can keep him grounded and focused

He's very good and this is very impressive, but also Iowa St. has been doing a lot of this lately to try to generate interest in a program that in many ways has understandably struggled in selling themselves.

It also doesn't change the fact that its an "offer" and we have seen a of times that the "offer" can go away from either side pretty quickly. Don't get why someone would offer a kid in middle school no matter how good he is.

It seems to happen in baseball quite a bit. I know of at least a few local kids who had d1 baseball offers before playing an inning of high school baseball.

I heard the offer is legit, but a waste of time. Rumor has it he'll be an IMG kid before too long.

Saw him upclose at NCC wmy guess is 5-11/6-0 foot now. Kid throws it exceptionally well. Outside of that it's well....just a mess on several levels I'll have more soon.

Are you hearing that Taylor (QB at Marist) perhaps not playing football his Senior year to focus on hoops?

It's a mess on several levels...kid that young gets an offer...you damn well know Iowa State won't begin to take any commitment from him all it does is get people talking about Iowa State for a minute.

It's a mess for the kid and his family because he now has a bullseye on him before he ever takes a snap at the HS level..and all the kid did was show up and play. Kid will now be hated by every other QB that's a senior and below and will have to deal with all of that crap.

Mess for Naz because now the QB shuffle begins I'm sure....where QB Dad XYZ and QB Dad PDQ start looking for a new school to call home...it's a mess for Naz and Racki because he now has pressure to play the kid no matter what.

Again....it's a mess on several levels.

Enough about this freshman.
Have you heard about this fifth-grader Hawaii has signed?
He must be better since they signed him earlier.
And since they change coaches about every three years, I'm sure the third coach from now will honor that commitment.

I think Racki is the right coach to handle it. IMO jj will start on the soph level and be the 2-3 on varsity. And in 2018 gets the job for 3 years.

regardless of the offer, he is a great kid and works hard. He has a great arm and great personality. He will be starting his sophomore year at Naz and with all the kids that will be seniors that year, he will be alright. Very grounded kid and understands that he still has to work! I have watched him play for Boom Futures and he is pretty good. There will not be any issues with him and the kids at Naz! They all like him and are happy for him. Now that may be different with some parents. LOL

IMG / Offer? Next we will hear his draft position. Matt Campbell just added fuel to the fire. It doesn't mean squat until he signs on singing day and a ton can happen in 4 yrs. I am sure there are some upper classman at Naz counting the days to go live.
Talented kid, but way out of control.

We cant blame the kid! He did nothing wrong! They will support him and will do everything to make him successful because he is humble and is a great teammate! People outside of Naz will look at it differently but the players will treat him as family. That's the culture Coach Racki has created at Naz. Again, except for the occasional out of touch parent, he will be fine. I am a fan!

I blame Matt Campbell for exploiting the kid and the process. Humility is very uncommon on any field these days. The days of a kid shutting his mouth and handing the ball to the ref is long gone.

This isn't about the kid and rarely if ever is it in situations like this. I have no doubt this is an extremely talented kid on the field and a good kid off it. Where my skin curdles is that some collegiate wonk decided to offer a grade school kid.

Has this really come to this now? That college recruiters have to get the jump so far down in the shallow end of the pool as to offer a kid that isn't even in HS yet?

As the father of a soon to be sophomore and a son to be a freshman I would have a hard time if someone came and offered either of my kids this early. It's an honor to be offered by a D1 school but at some point isn't there supposed to be an element of fun left in sports?

Now this kid has to wear that albatross before he even takes his first snap in HS.

Not a fan of this process.

Little late on this thread but... wasn't McCarthy going to BR? Perhaps I'm confusing him with someone else

Was close? As in use to be?
Not true, still extremely close family friends. Nothing changed with him going to NAz and the jersey was picked up when he toured the school

Stop the hype, its brutal. Campbell trying to make a name for the Chicago recruiting. If any of you ever actually played for D 1 you would know this has gotten out of control. Humble, what a joke.

You really think Campbell will be at Iowa State 5 years from now. That dude already has his sights set for a Big Ten job. What the hell does the ride mean. It means the kids head just gets as big as ever and that he has a bullseye from some upper classman that are hungry for a scholarship.

NCAA needs to put a stop to this garbage
