If so, it was smart, and it worked. I don’t see how Josh Allen comes close to Mayfield’s level of play, but if Bakester was premeditated in his conduct last season, and even if he flopped in the cfp purposefully, I give it to him. If he would’ve been classic Baker in the playoffs, he’d more than likely be on Cle’s radar. If I were him, I’d do anything possible to avoid that, and have my career die early.

Baker throwing the season to leverage his draft status? That thought never entered my mind. I'm pretty sure you won't find many others, if any, who had the same thought. Baker clearly played some of his best football down the stretch and he won a boat load of post season awards, so my answer is no. In no way shape or form did he systematically tank the season.

To accept the OP's premise one has to believe that Mayfield intentionally played juuuuuuuust well enough to win the Big 12, the Heisman, and make the playoffs, but not quite well enough to win even the 1st round. Or well enough to be a 1st round pick but not a #1 pick. Seems like an impossible balancing act.

Pretty sure Lincoln needed to call some Baker plays in order for Baker to be in control of tanking. Lincoln took the ball out of Baker's hands. How could he have controlled that?

Nah, Baker didn't tank the season, he just didn't have enough help when it mattered the most vs Georgia, Coaching Staff on down the list. Baker did all he could to overcome another horrible defense. He had to be thinking good grief how many times do we need to score to win a game? I blame Mike S. and his crappy defense, thats where I lay the blame and those that keep him around.

Haha. I actually forgot I posted this. Just jumped on after assessing what’s going on with the B.B. team, and saw the responses. Truthfully, I was probably a few Hoptometrists into the early stages of grief. In retrospect, it was pretty dumb. I was over complicating the denial stage. Lol. I heard an interview after the Senior Bowl. The subject was Josh Allen, but when assessing the entire practice week, talk quickly shifted, unprompted, to Baker and how much presence he had in the locker room and on the practice field all week. While being careful to NOT say Allen didn't have it, (said something like "an area that needs improvement"), he was quick to jump to Baker as an example of someone that DID have it. He couldn't have been more complimentary of Baker in the discussion.
Oh, and he said the Browns took notice...which seems to be a recurring theme. Sounds like if they don't take him or another QB at 1, Baker could go at 4 to the Brownies.
