Did the Vols run into the Kentucky effect?

Remember Joe Hallmcalled our attention to the winning percentage of teams who play other teams before AND after they play UK? I never though Houston was that good and they don't play a tough schedule. So how did they kill UT? I didn't see the game.

If you never thought Houston was that good then you are simply wrong. They're a great team, and I dont know how winning a conference with Iowa St., Texas Tech, BYU, and Arizona isn't playing a tough schedule. They're SOS was 20th in the country.

You're entitled to your opinion. Mods, please consolidate this thread with the other one I posted. I ran into an electronic glitch.

You asked how they easily handled UT and I answered. They beat them with suffocating defense and can still score when needed along with that D. I don't think they can score enough to beat Duke but they will give them a game.

Almost every team that beat Ky this year went on to win their next game

It's called the PKWS: Post Kentucky Win Syndrome.

It’s a combination of Houston being a mirror image of UT but better, and UT expended a ton of emotional energy on Friday.

I do believe in the Kentucky Effect, especially as it pertains to the SEC. But I'll keep going back to this: we just played like crap. I'm not even sure Tennessee played all that great. Sure they were fired up, but I think that was more because they lost to us twice already.

We won that game over the last 25 minutes.. we just totally no showed in the early part and could never get back into it.

I don't think Tennessee had to reach very deep within themselves to win on Friday night. A performance like that from Kentucky would have seen a loss to a LOT of teams.. might have even lost our first round game if we played like that.

Agree. We played like **** and UT didn’t even play great. If we come with the same effort and focus we played with against Illinois, we probably win that game. It was atrocious.

One of my buddies has a friend from Knoxville who is a big UT fan and he told my buddy that was the best UT had played all year. 🤷‍♂️

Houston did to UT exactly what UT did to us.

Smothered us with defense and never let up. Limited us to 15 three point attempts, our season low.

I wish it was the Kentucky effect but I don't believe it was.

Maybe. But it wasn’t even our B game. Our guys looked disinterested or tired. No energy to start the game. No attempts to rebound. After two minutes I knew it was over.
I agree and told some friends in a group text the same thing. Just no energy and seemed lackadaisical to start the game. Several rebounds were because we had guys standing around and making zero attempt to go after the ball. UT wasn't even having to block us out.

Literally watched the ball fall to the floor and roll around.

UT was not very good offensively and relied on out-physicalling teams which they could not do to Houston. They really took advantage of how the SEC was officiated this year.

Auburn, Duke, Houston, Florida, Saint Johns, Tennessee, Alabama, Michigan State, Texas Tech and Kentucky were the top 10 seeds in this tournament. I think chalk held up, outside of the West 10 seed Arkansas making it to the Sweet 16. But they played in the best conference this year, and they were led by a guy with a title. So they had the potential that most ten seeds didn't.

Houston is a better version of Tennessee. They've been that for the tenure of Sampson, this is their second Final Four in four years. Duke knocked the Cougars out last year, it'll be fun to see the best offensive team against the best defensive team on Saturday.

It almost looked like we were throwing the game- not sure how you cannot be fired up to play that game

I’m sorry but the Kentucky Effect holds no water with a Final Four on the line for TN

Houston thrashed Tennessee on Sunday because their defense suffocated them first 15 minutes

UK game has nothing to do with their loss

Just another BBN made up garbage theory that makes UK fans feel better after they lose

Weird dynamic in play

Just another BBN self-esteem issue

All credit goes to that defense.
