Woulda.....Coulda.....shoulda.....hired Petrino instead of Stoops. Looks like Stoops was the correct hire over the motorcycle maniac tonight. Is this debate settled now that Stoops took a big dump on Louisville's home field and Lamar Jackson's Heisman hopes in year 4???

Bobby Petrino had the best player in all of college football. He went 9-3 and lost to Kentucky and Mark Stoops. Petrino is fine coach and certainly more successful than Stoops to date but I was adamant about not hiring him. Stoops still has a way to go to prove himself, but he took a huge step forward today.

Petrino has had better talent and a more stable program than Stoops , that gap is closing but still in UL's favor . It'll take two to three more years imo to be on level footing or close to it , at that point I think we win more often than not .
Your joking right? Difference between ul and uk is non existent they may have the better qb but not the better roster top to bottom. Dont know whay team you watched today

Petrino is 1-3 against teams with more than 6 wins this year. The ACC Atlantic division is terrible, so it looks like it's more stable but in reality their not that good.

Just a reminder that Lamar Jackson didn't start last year's game. Petrino is an idiot. Living off of Charlie Strong talent. When Lamar leaves next year, the program will crater.

Don't care about BP at all. CMS will be here for awhile now. Hopefully, he can improve game strategy and scheming as we know he's a decent recruiter.Don't think he will ever have a great defense unless he gets a new DC. Great win today after an epic fail against UGA. At least the team didn't self-destruct down the stretch this year. Hopefully one more win is looming!

Another piece to this discussion is we have a better chance to keep Stoops after having success than we would have with Petrino. Bobby is loyal to nobody but himself. Stoops might bolt as well in a few years, but we at least have a shot since we gave him his first head coaching opportunity and drastically improved our facilities.

eh that's debatable. I agree Petrino has no loyalty whatsoever but I won't be that surprised if he ends his career at Louisville

Regardless of how anyone felt before, it's time now for all Cat fans to get behind our coach. I truly believe we're on the verge of seeing a major turnaround in the fortunes of UK football.

(God knows we deserve it)
I hope so. Today showed that UK has a chance to take that step. Team reutrns a ton of starters and redshirts become eligible.

Disagree...think we are there now. Otis loses a bunch while we don't especially if Boom stays for his senior yr and there should be no qb controversy in the spring and fall

Nobody was saying that before the game but after we win posters suddenly see us as better . I'm talking about what Petrino inherited versus what Stoops did and UL's total roster and not just playmakers positions . We aren't in good shape on the defensive line and linebacker , we close the gap every year on UL but we are still behind on depth and overall talent .

Fantastic win.......and call me shocked. Was this the first win for Stoops over a team with a winning record? It was great that a UK team finally went out a grabbed a win.......maybe give it to Gran. Old days we would have tried to burn clock and take our chances in OT......and we would have lost. Onward and upward....wtg Cats!

Based on what? He's bolted from every job he's had where he's had success for a bigger name school.
I don't know. He was fired from Arky, and might still be there otherwise. And ask 100 coaches what the better job is and I honestly think the majority would say Arky. He would LOVE to be in the SEC instead of a perrennial crap conference like the ACC. And it's awesome that none of our AD's considered hiring him.

THIS. It's 100% possible to have wanted MB to hire Petrino, but to fully support Stoops as HC. Stoops has earned the right to head into year 5 without the huge monkey on his back that has sat there for the last two years. I hope he's at UK for a long time and wins a ton of games.

Buttwipe and all, Petrino is a proven winner. Stoops is not as of yet. Hopefully he will be eventually but there's more work that needs to be done.

UK is trending in the right direction and Stoops has done a great job turning the season around. But let's not ahead of ourselves. It's one win. The first signature win in 4 years as an HC.

There's a lot to be excited about but be realistic.

I agree totally.

They have Lamar Jackson and some good defensive linemen.

Other than that the rosters are very close overall.

AHHHHH. It sure is nice to be able to read a UL thread without the UL trolls, and UL trolls posing as UK fans chiming in. The roaches have scurried back under the refrigerator, and they won't be back until UL beats us again, which will be a while, me thinks.

I know a lot of our fans wanted Petrino, and from a strictly football perspective it's easy to see why; the man has a great football mind. It's the OTHER part of his mind that a lot of us feared when we said we didn't want him on our sidelines. Let's face it, the man has a lot of issues that we simply don't need, but regardless, it's water under the bridge; he's the coach at UL now, and we have to get behind Mark Stoops.

Yep, it WAS one win, but guys, we were FOUR TD UNDERDOGS, playing on the road, with a former Juco QB to lead the team, and by God we won.

We have a lot of red shirt guys who can help us next year, and our recruiting has been very good. I firmly believe, barring a complete meltdown, that Stoops has earned the right to keep coaching this team.

:Let's see how next season transpires, but until then I firmly believe it's best if the entire fan base gets behind him 100%.

Go Big BLUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why do people keep saying Stoops' may bolt? He has the full support of the administration, a top-5 training facility, a very supportive fan base, and he already coaches at a topnotch university in the SEC! He could really make a name for himself, compete for conference championships, play in consecutive major bowls, and maybe compete for national championships (remember Mississippi State with Dak Prescott last year). There may be a Dak Prescott in UK's future (It could be Stephen Johnson next year.). And guess what? Dan Mullens is still at MSU! Lexington is much more attractive than Starkville, MS.

Well, we don't know what Petrino would have done here. We do know he is a hell of a coach, yesterday's result notwithstanding. What the win does do is create confidence in the Mark Stoops program moving forward that did not exist prior in a large portion of the fanbase. Hopefully, yesterday was the start of something and not the culmination of something. With 18/19 starters back that should be the case.

Petrino's record against top-25 teams isn't exactly stellar. The guy is a good coach but may be looked at a bit too highly by some on here.

Petrino is a very good x &to guy. More experienced and probably a little better HC. However my question is if BP was our HC would he as effective of a recruiter capable of building a program from the bottom up. Could he build an Ohio pipeline? There is some truth that BP inherited a lot of preexisting talent

Reread the last part of the last sentence in my post. With the facilities upgrades and the Ohio pipeline so close to Lexington, I think UK is the perfect spot for Stoops. Thing is, you don't hear too often of coaches turning down the big name jobs even if the move doesn't entirely make sense. Look at Charlie Strong. He moved too far away from his Florida recruiting pipeline to Texas for a big name job when he had it rolling at Louisville. I hope he stays but it is far from a given.
